So I stumbled upon Matt Breida of GA Southern after his 2014 season and thought he was the most electric back I have seen in ages. My thoughts were cemented after he posted another monster year in 2015. And I prayed he would declare early.....
His 2016 season was to be a heisman like year, but it never happened. Arguably one of the best backs in the nation, just vanished off the box score. I've read articles, forums, and GAS Eagle boards and from what I gather it was a coaching change in 2016 the led to his demise. Which is a shame that a coach can't figure out how to use a 1500 yard 17 TD back. Granted he is 5-10 190, but built compact, and has speed for days. Zero dancing in the backfield. Not sure I've seen a back hit a hole as fast as he does, but still has the patience and vision in the open field.
After back to back years posting 1485/17td and 1605/17td he drops a 646/3 his senior year. Disappointing to say the least for a guy desperate to make it to the NFL. Both his parents are extremely handicap, and the feel good headlines were written and ready to print until his senior year.
I don't think a guy just forgets how to run, and I'm inclined to believe that a new inexperienced coaching staff should shoulder the blame.
I know some of you chimed in on my post last year and the year before when I started to hype him during draft season. But if you don't know him:
Sure, take McCaffrey at 19......but I'd love to see this kid scooped up in the 6th or 7th round. Don't let him become an urfa!
