is it odd that over the first 10 years of his career josh mccown never had a qb rating of 75...has a nice 5 game stretch under trestman and now everyone thinks he is an answer?
Yes. He plays in the 'what have you done for me lately" league.

i don't think anyone thinks he's the answer. But we have a questionable QB situation and so that means either draft a rookie or sign a vet and have him and Glennon compete.

That's five times as much as Flynn ever did.

Depends what the question is, whether or not he is the answer. Is he the 2nd coming of Tom Brady ? Of course not.Is he a guy to hold the clipboard, and he can take over if Glennon gets body slammed by Clowney in the first game of the season? Sure, he could fill in, until they found a plan B.
We should get McCown in FA and take a late round flyer on Logan Thomas. Then let the three QBs battle it out over the summer.
No, we don't need a triangle of crap.
Man our QB position has just gotten sad. We've turned into the Browns starting a bunch of mediocre rookies and considering starting journeymen who never did anything in their careers. We're not exactly a Superbowl team under McCown. Just roll with Glennon and a rookie. We're not a superbowl team under them either, but at least we will gain a clearer picture of the future at the position instead of delaying it a year.

Apparently you have a better idea...
I honestly have a hard time seeing us not draft a QB this year. The only question would be what round. IF we bring in McCown, it really should be as a backup. If we are starting him, we are really doing it wrong.
Beating out and not beating out in the offseason...that is mostly a fairy tale competition. Anyone really think that Freeman beat out Glennon in training camp last year?

now thats he golden question the new coaching staff and GM must answer,: can Glennon beat out someone like McCown? If the answer is no or In serious doubt then there really is only one option for this team. Draft a QB early.

I went to all of the open practices this past summer. From a fan's perspective, it looked like a dead even tie.
McCown is a product of Trestman. Trestman = the QB Whisperer. Not a knock on McCown, and he should probably stay in Chicago. I don't want him here. He's not a short term, or long term answer

The question shouldn't be whether Glennon can "beat out" McCown. There is no point in rolling with McCown at all, except as a backup. I would expect a guy like McCown who has years of experience in more than one system to probably look better in practice on a new team than a guy who spent his rookie year in a retarded system and is now learning a new one in just his second season. Glennon has a future though, McCown doesn't. If you want a replacement for Glennon, then you draft him. But otherwise he is your starter.
Glennon needs a veteran backup who is dependable.McCown is better than Orlovsky.Question answered.
