McCoy believes he does a lot to help the defense November 5, 2015 Gil Arcia Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has come under a lot of criticism for the way he has performed since signing is new deal last season. There are many who have also questioned his leadership. But despite what media and fans have said, McCoy remains certain that he is doing what he needs to do to help a bad Tampa Bay defense.“I believe that I’m doing a lot to help my team on the defensive side of the ball and helping other guys out on the defensive line or even the defense in general,” McCoy tells NFL Media’s Dave Dameshek (video below). “But I’m never satisfied. There’s always room for improvement and I can do a lot more.”No one has ever questioned McCoy’s drive on the practice fields at One Buc Place. He just hasn’t been all that spectacular as he hasn’t graded out well — and I don’t mean in the eyes of the stat geeks or fans. His own defensive coordinator revealed last week they hold their “star” defensive player to a higher standard and so perhaps that standard as not been met. Including for McCoy.You can hear and watch McCoy’s entire segment below.
