What is McCoy's legacy with the Bucs?
I keep reading that McCoy is part of the losing culture. Dump him.
Paul Gruber. He was a leader of the Bucs inept offense on a team that lost nine straight years with a record of 48-96. He made zero probowls. I don't think people were calling for him to be dumped. The Bucs stuck with him and he made the ring of honor, even after missing the playoff run of 1999 due to a broken leg. Why is he in the Ring of Honor? Wasn't he part of the losing culture? Were people on this board calling Gruber a loser when he was put into the ring? I doubt it. "The consummate professional, he was the one shining example of a quality football player on a team of lemons."
McCoy has actually had two winning seasons in his first 9 years, and six pro-bowls. McCoy like Gruber has been nothing but a class act and team player the whole way. So the people on this board who want to unceremoniously dump him in the trash I have to ask did they feel that way about Gruber? What is the difference between Gruber and McCoy other than McCoy is more accomplished? Why does Gruber hold a spot in the Ring and people want to dump McCoy like a bad habit?
Regardless if McCoy moves on or not, Bucs fans should give him a lot more respect than he's getting. McCoy will be fine. There are people in this world that deserve pity, but a rich NFL player isn't one of them. The shame goes to the idiot Bucs fans who are proving that they are a bunch of goobers. That may be a vocal minority. I hope so. You know who you are.
