As bad as that signing seems, was the timing of his release an even dumber move? I assumed Lovie and Licht were pretty bad at their job simply due to the fact that they had to cut their 2 biggest FA signings within a year of having their jobs. But why drop Johnson with not even ONE capable NFL starter on the roster? We're the Bucs strapped for cash? No. Dealing with a locker room cancer? Nope. What was the benefit in releasing Johnson so early without having anything resembling a replacement option, and still at a point in his contract where releasing him benefits the team very little financially?
