Besides the more well known names in the draft Mcarthy, jenkins, corum, colson, wilson, zinter, sainristil . I am curious, interested in some of the lower rated prospects from UM in draft. They must have been doing something right because this was a solid all around team!
Trevor Keegan- always saw this captain at coin flip, looks a bit stiff but looks like he gets the job done and leader. How would u compare to Zinter? And note Keegan played left guard pretty much all 4 years I believe. Is he worth 4th 5th round pick? I kind of feel like he can be a decent player just ugly movement and limited athleticism but somehow he gets the job done looking ugly.
Drake Nugent- If we miss on higher rated center I am intrigued by this guy. Started at center for stanford and played his last year at UM. I like what I saw of him . Seems underrated. Worth 4th -6th round pick? Gotta feeling he could be a steal late in draft
L Henderson and Trente Jones, Karst Barnhart- seems like the strength of the line was the interior guys. Are the 3 tackles any good and do they project as tackles moving to guard? They are rated low as prospects. Dont know much about these 3 OL
Mike Barret - how do you compare to Colson , where would you rank/draft him?
Mcgreagor and Harrell def ends- They had to be doing something right cause that defense was solid? Dont know what to think of them
Cournelius Johnson wr- where should he be drafted? is he only wr3 or could he be wr2 . has good size. Dont know about him?
Aj Barner te- Is he capable all around tight end, could he ever be a starter ?
Thanks for any info from someone who followed michigan or knows more
It seems like a lot of michigan players are going to make nfl rosters this year. could be a record
Nugent is interesting as a Day 3 prospect.
I think McCarthy is overhyped at this point. He was a mid to late first round pick and now he's up to #3 pick in the draft because of the propoganda campaign of his ex-coach. The Vikings can just sit tight at 11 and probably get him there IMO. Maybe trade up a couple spots.
The Bucs could use Roman Wilson if he lasts to late 3rd or Blake Corum in the 3rd or 4th. Somewhere somebody mentioned Sainristil CB to the Bucs. I can't remember where that name came up.
Nothing against any Michigan players, but Licht isn't going to try to raid the Michigan store for players. He likes players from the Big 10 who have been through the wars. But Winfield was from Minnesota. Wirfs from Iowa. He's not going to get too laser focused because they won the Championship. Did Licht ever draft anyone from a national championship team? Yes, OJ Howard was the MVP of the Championship game. But I don't think that's a huge deal for Licht. Anybody else drafted by the Bucs win a college championship?
McCarthy is an efficient QB, obviously well-coached and probably has a high football IQ. ]
It's harder to evaluate him though because he had the benefit of a great OL, a great running game to lean on and great receiving weapons, plus a really good defense. Recently I was forced to watch some tape on him and did not see much arm strength on deep shots and didn't show much zip on the ball on shorter routes. not saying he couldn't be successful at the next level without a cannon attached to his shoulder, but it'll be tough for him to execute certain plays without more velocity, such as the 10-15 yard out route, in particular to the far side of the field, but even on the short side he might not be able to execute that pass without Montana-level timing and precision.
If he just can't do that sort of thing, he could still be successful, just see Andrew Luck's career; he also was unable to make those kinds of throws with any consistency but found other ways to succeed, and eventually became a very solid top-10 type of QB. So the question might be "is McCarthy on the same level as an Andrew Luck?"
