"I just wish you guys would see me as Michael Sam, the football player rather than Michael Sam, the gay football player."bull****! It was his own choice to come out publicly. Now he wants to act as if he never said it. Everyone at Missouri knew he was gay for over a year at the least. Some longer. No one came out and told because in reality who the hell is Michael Sam? a fringe 3rd-5th round prospect? If this were Jadaveon Clowney, then there's worry that someone might tell. But no one cared who Michael Sam was before he came out. No one was going to tell. He's trying to milk the hell out of this for headlines.
He's the co-Defensive Player of the Year for the SEC and singlehandedly won the Cotton Bowl for Mizzou. He's not a fringe prospect, gay or straight.
Who cares what his college achievements were. Chris Weinke was a Heisman winner. As was Tim Tebow. You see how that turned out. Being a great college player doesn't equal being a great prospect. There's a reason he was and is seen as a 3rd round prospect at best.

At that time he was Michael Sam the defensive player of the year. He said what he wants, not what he expects, that is the reason why he came out. So that future players don't have to hide who they are. He should be seen as Michael Sam the football player, but since he was the first, he will now forever be seen as Michael Sam the first openly gay football player.
His sexual preference has zero to do with being a football player. Zero. So I don't buy this nonsense about him not wanting to hide who he is. The fact that he defines himself by his sexuality is troubling as it is. Live your life. Do you. But don't whore yourself to the media and then get upset when they ask you about it. Again remember he wasn't hiding a thing a year ago. By his own words nearly everyone who knew him at Missouri already knew. He already attended gay clubs and gay pride events and had a boyfriend. To me it upset him that no one said anything so he did it himself. This is 2014. Being gay isn't a big deal anymore. Live your life. Do youbut when you start attention seeking like Sam is then it becomes a problem.

He's mad that a minority player is getting.. attention? I dunno how that hurts anyone. Maybe he prefers that criminal players get all the media attention.Once this nation loves gays as much as people of other races, then the media will get bored with gay players.
At least Michael Sam will be able to get a good Parking Spot......

1. He was a 3rd rounder.. He became a 3-5 rounder after coming out. 2. Everyone knew that there was a gay player coming out of college. A lot of media people thought it was Michael Sam, but didn't have any firm evidence. He came out on his own terms, instead of being outed. Which would've happened eventually.3. He was the best defensive player in college football and you sound like he was a nobody.4. shut up.
"He was the best defensive player in college football"And the tale grows taller on down the line.

This train of thought doesn't leave the station because it isa big deal that Michael Sam is gay. Now, let's say it's September 2014 and he hasn't come out yet and someone from his team outs him. Is this a big story? Yes it's a huge effin deal. If you don't like gay people, that's one thing. But it's very illogical to say that you tolerate gays and also say that they should be quiet about being gay because you're tired of hearing about gay people even though you have no problem with them being gay as long as they're minding their business.

The SEC is considered to be the best college conference and Sam was the Defensive Player of the Year. Explain to me which part of that is a "tall tale".

At the very least, its subjective. Isn't there an award for Defensive Player of the Nation?
"The SEC is considered to be the best college conference and Sam was the Defensive Player of the Year. Explain to me which part of that is a "tall tale"."So the best team in the SEC is the best team in the nation? Or does your logic not hold up?
Been looking at awards and selections for best defensive player, and Aaron Donald is very popular, followed by Barr. Can't find anyone who picked Michael Sam (except for one SEC homer on Pewter Report).

Despite losing its first national title in eight seasons, the SEC finished atop ESPN Stats & Information’s Conference Power Rankings by a wide margin. The SEC lost its two BCS bowl games but went 7-1 in its eight other bowl games. Its only non-BCS blemish came when Georgia, without quarterback Aaron Murray, lost by five points to Nebraska in the Gator Bowl. Overall, the SEC finished with seven teams ranked in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll, including four in the top seven. Only the Pac-12 had more than three teams ranked in the entire AP Top 25. What sets the SEC apart is its depth. Mississippi State, which finished fifth in the SEC West, won its bowl game by 37 points. Similarly, Vanderbilt, which finished fourth in the SEC East, won by 17 points without its starting quarterback. In all, 10 of the SEC’s 14 teams finished with winning records, including seven teams with at least nine wins.

Do we know for sure HE put this on and wasn't pressured? From what I've seen he's the "tebow of homosexualism." Seemingly, he's pushing the issue, yet asking for people to talk about his stats?I haven't been following this much, as I think it's a silly topic to begin with.
"Is it subjective? Sure, but don't act like I'm the only person who feels this way."I already gave you that you were an SEC homer, you need not present additional evidence of it. What you haven't presented is any evidence that Michael Sam is the best defensive player in college football - because there isn't any. No one agrees with you on this.
