QFT. It'll be more of the same as the season continues.Baker didn't make anything easy.
Frustrating night all around...
Yeah. The drops were indeed frustrating.
But, as you said, minus the initial quick hitter to Godwin; Baker was inaccurate right out of the gate.
The 2nd pass of the game where he missed Thompkins was really bad and set the tone to me.
But, after watching the All-22, it was even worse. Another great call and play design with Palmer and Thompkins on a double crosser (where the safety commits to Palmer...who is FLYING).
Deven has nothing but green grass in front of him and an easy TD.
Baker airmails him.
Then the late read on Evans in the EZ (that drop can be argued either way), but it was still a bad throw. Then the late read on the Godwin throw that was picked.
Baker has legitimately left 5-7 absolute CAKE touchdowns on the table in the first 3 weeks alone.
And, don't get me wrong. Evans dropped an easy one last game (or Minny...can't remember which), Palmer inexplicably ran OB on one last week, etc.
But, Baker has to do better in this regard.
I'm trusting that it will get better, since there are so many open looks out there. New system, new receivers to work with, new OC, etc.
If he can get it together, this offense has tons of potential.
Still waiting on kancey. As we all saw lines make a difference. We saw what their first round rookies were doing to us. Wish we could see what kancey could do with this defense. Everyone on D just seemed a bit slow minus Izien. I know the kancey is untested but the possibilities. He would bring some speed that rivals Uber athletic jts but actually can finish the play and has a nose for the ball. Logan hall is a waste. Him getting manhandled in college didn't ever inspire me. About the only good thing is they drafted him in the second round rather than the second rd. I liked the motor of Gaines. Devin was gifted a int. What happened to his replacement? Another rookie that has speed and a nose for the ball. Bad timing for the rookies to be getting hurt. There is no juice on this D at the moment. Top paid cbs not being available. But still I believe in the potential of them going 11-7.
I'm not trying to throw Baker under the bus and panic. I've been praising him prior...
But he was inaccurate and made late/poor decisions last night.
Baker also isn't a very accurate passer in general. Like Winston, the completions can thwart YAC based on placement.
I think he will bounce back next week... I don't think Trask is the answer.
But I do think generally that Trask throws a more accurate ball.

That's the thing, though. We don't really know if Trask is the answer or not. I, and others, think he might be. You, and others, think he can't. I just know he showed the ability to hit the intermediate routes far more consistently than Baker, and the result was the offense got first downs more regularly with him than it did with Baker. Plus, Baker's trend has continued into the regular season. It's been real hit or miss with him. I hope he gets it going and starts hitting the guys that are regularly open, but if not, how long until we see if Trask can? This team needs to know this year whether or not it has an answer at QB or not, as the draft will have quite a few good ones in it.
Despite the drops, if drawing DPI penalty yardage were a stat, M1k3 would be near or at the top of the list every year.
I think Mike Evans is great, but he’s not perfect and drops are a problem. In his defense, I looked up some old stats on dropped passes and I honestly expected him to be top 5 year in and year out in dropped passes simply because ME is a very high volume WR and the obvious drops. He’s not even close to that, I think his drops are magnified because they typically occur when a catch would have resulted in a first down or TD. ME13 doesn’t drop many 3-4 yard passes on 2nd and 8, he has dropped a TD in a close game and several big 3rd downs after long drives, they never seem to be relatively inconsequential, if that makes any sense, so it seems like it occurs more often than it really does. With that being said, I am a huge huge Godwin fan, it’s the hands. It’s a good thing I’m not head coach, I would pass the ball to Godwin every play and I really don’t think anyone could stop him.
