As someone pointed out in a thread earlier, and I'll take their word for it that it was accurate, Glennon actually had more time to throw than most other NFL QBs. If true, that puts the problem on either Sullivan's system, or our receiver package. As good as Glennon is at reading D and following his progressions, I doubt that much of it was on him...

Here is what they said....Quarterback: Mike Glennon, TB (-8.2)As can be seen from the grade, this selection falls firmly in the “best of a bad bunch” category. The bottom line is: when he was protected well he played well, but when he was under pressure his play deteriorated to an unacceptable level. When kept clean he had a passer rating of 101.4 and we graded him a +8.0 but under duress those numbers dropped to 55.7 and -15.8. Worryingly for Tampa Bay fans, those numbers are remarkably similar to the ones Josh Freeman put up in 2012.

Freeman in 2012 had four years of experience, so Glennon's numbers in his rookie season are comparable. Sounds to me like a pretty good base to build on since undoubtedly the coaching, scheme, and surrounding personnel will all be upgraded in 1014.

Mike Glennon ranked 35th in passing yards per game. 35th in a 32 team league.

Yeah this has me concerned. He didn't start a full season but even if you take into account three extra games and use his average he is still way below average.

I'm not going to go too far with this but looking at his splits and situations (ESPN has these breakouts and NFL.com didn't)  we ran 416 pass plays, we had motion on exactly 2 of those plays. I don't know what I find more odd that we had so little motion or  that we wasted time with motion on two plays. Glennon attempted 416 passes and threw 234 of them under 10 yards (56%).  Others, Brady (61%), Rodgers (60), Luck (57). His throws short are not out of line with some very good QBs. What is out of line is getting 4.7 YPA while the other three get 6.9, 6.5 and 5.7 YPA.  Really this is where his YPA suffers. At longer ranges his YPA are right in line with these three. Looking at pass distance thrown, so discounting run aft catch this is air yards.  He is 2nd at 11-20. 1st at 21-30, 3rd at 31-40 and 1st at 41+.  The thing is for a dink n dunker he is really bad at dunking and dunking.

Glennon averaged 200 yards per game which would have been fine in 2001 but in the year 2014 you need a QB averaging at least 250+ yards per game.  If Glennon can pull it off it remains to be seen.

Colin Kaepernick averaged just under 200 yards per game. If you add in rushing yards, he's averaging 230 per game.Cam Newton and Russell Wilson averaged about 210 yards per game.Andrew Luck averaged 238.So half the quarterbacks left in the playoffs didn't average 250+.

If you look at all the passing stats like TDs, Interceptions, yards, completion %, ect.....Kap and Glennon are almost identical in 2013. The difference? Kap ran for over 500 yards, 28 1st downs, and 4 TDs. Cam, Wilson, and Luck....same story. If Glennon could do that, his ability as a passer would be just fine. But he can't. So f we are going with a statue in the pocket, he's got to be an elite talent with outstanding passing stats. Otherwise we aren't going anywhere.

The problem is those teams threw the ball a lot less to get the same amount of yards. Tampa Bay: 176 yards per game, 32 attempts per gameSan Francisco: 186 yards per game, 26 attempts per gameCarolina: 190 yards per game, 29 attempts per game (Cam's numbers are way down with Mike Shula) Seattle: 202 yards per game, 26 yards per attemptThe Bucs throw it more to get less.

We shall see if one of these QB progress to the big dance then and win it all.  :o

This is the critical point.Glennon needs to become an astronomically better QB to overcome his lack of running ability.

Say what you want, the point remains undenieable. When we ran the ball with even average effectiveness, Mike Glennon played very well. That's not disputable. 97.3 passer rating. To say that running ball doesn't affect the passing game is simply untrue as Mike's season this year clearly pointed out that it did in fact, for the Buccaneers, improve his effectiveness. If you can find a Manning, let's draft him. There isn't one available so let's make it easier on the guy we'll in all likelihood be rooting for next year.

VERY telling stats. I would expand your last sentence to say "THE BUCS are really bad at dinking and dunking". The man being dunked to is virtually NEVER moving. Other teams run delayed short routes which are often WIDE open, lots of opportunity for YAC. Our short distance receivers seem to always be STATIONARY when they catch it, easy for a defender to cover with little YAC. Or Glennon could be waiting on deeper routes to come open and the short receiver stops. Whatever; we really are very poor at getting PRODUCTION from our short passes, like most teams do. A BIG beef of mine with Sullivan's offense!

I wasn't debating whether Glennon can be or will be an effective NFL starter, I was just disagreeing with the notion that a passer has to average 250+ passing yards for his team to be successful when there are four teams left in the playoffs with QBs that average less than that.In terms of Glennon, I don't think it's surprising that he performed poorly when pressured and performed well when he had time. He's a rookie, he's going to improve. I certainly don't know that he's going to be a good or great or amazing QB in the NFL, but my gut feeling after watching him this past year is that he's good enough to win with. I'm with a lot of people, though, that have been waiting their entire lives for the Bucs to have a truly great, franchise QB, so I'm definitely not opposed to trying to improve the position.
