He and Coach Koetter have a history, of course. Second, the guy has former head coaching experience (he won AP COY and three times was Sporting News COY) so he would be able to assist Coach Koetter is transitioning from coordinator to head coach. He's a Florida guy (from Daytona Beach) and during his tenure as the DC in Jacksonville his defense was ranked in the top 10 for points allowed four out of his five seasons there.Additionally, he knows this division, he learned to coach defense under Rex Ryan, and from what I've been able to gather, as a DC his players loved him.He would make an excellent sounding board for Coach Koetter when he needs it.
