In his opening press conference Mike Smith stated that he needs his defense to do 3 things:1. Stop the run2. Get takeaways3. Make stops on 3rd downWhat about getting pressure and sacks???Well I saw an interesting stat on jbf. (Source Scott Smith Buccaneers.com)Mike Smiths defense over his tenure as DC of the Jags ranked 4th in points allowed, and 4th in yards allowed, and only once in that 5 year span did he have a double digit sack guy. (Bobby McCray 10 sacks 2006)If his scheme isn't reliant on having that stud pass rusher, and he can still get top 5 output, does that make the importance of drafting a DE in the first few rounds less important?Signing a FA DE to play opposite J Smith will free us up in the draft considerably. My guess is we might see OL or WR.
