Giants to interview ex-QB coach Mike Sullivan for offensive coordinator position  Sullivan, who served as Giants quarterbacks coach during Eli Manning's career-best 2011 season and worked under Greg Schiano for two years in Tampa Bay, is a disciple of the recently retired Kevin Gilbride. By Ebenezer Samuel / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Published:  Monday, January 6, 2014, 9:51 PM.  Sully_Zpsa0466394.JpgRobert Sabo/New York Daily NewsGiants offensive coordinator candidate Mike Sullivan (l.) has a well-established relationship with Eli Manning. Two years ago, Mike Sullivan coached Eli Manning to the finest season of his career. And now, the Giants could give Sullivan a chance to fix Manning after the QB’s worst. The Giants will interview Sullivan this week for their newly vacant offensive coordinator position, a source confirmed. It’s a move that many have expected since the beginning of this tumultuous offseason. Sullivan, who spent the last two seasons serving as the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator, was among those let go when Tampa Bay cleaned house early last week.  And he seemed a natural fit to return to the Giants, even before longtime offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride retired on Thursday. It was Sullivan who served as Giants quarterbacks coach during the 2011 season, when Manning passed for a career-high 4,933 yards. And Manning, who threw an NFL-high 27 interceptions this season, seems in desperate need of a guru to get him going in the right direction again. Sullivan’s name surfaced instantly, although he’s far from the perfect candidate. Gilbride earned the nickname “Killdrive” for what many fans believed was predictable play-calling, and his offense ranked 28th in the NFL (three spots lower than the Jets) in total yards this season.  He dealt with injuries, however, and both Tom Coughlin and Manning backed Gilbride before he chose to step away from the game. Sully1_Zpsd2727Bef.jpgCorey Sipkin/New York Daily News Mike Sullivan spent the last two seasons working under Greg Schiano in Tampa Bay. Will Sullivan really be that much different? He’s a Gilbride disciple who runs a similar offense. That means that Manning could find himself fighting to throw the same vertical shots down the field that failed so often in 2013. Sullivan’s Buccaneer offense was even worse than the Giants’ this season, ranking dead last in the league in total yards, although it played most of the year without its best player, tailback Doug Martin. Still, it looks as if Sullivan will get first crack at the Giants’ open coordinator job, and he may be exactly what the team wants. Manning is entering his 11th season, and he has played  for Gilbride for his entire career, so the club may not want to completely overhaul the system and force its franchise quarterback to relearn everything. Other changes could still come for the Giants as well. Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell spent Monday interviewing in Washington for the Redskins’ head coaching job. And special teams coach Tom Quinn and current Giants quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan could still be let go by the Giants, a franchise that’s in the midst of its lengthy offseason evaluation process.Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/giants-interview-sullivan-oc-position-article-1.1567876#ixzz2ph7lOjtg

That would be a dead end for New York.

We'd find out whose offense it really was that he was calling here. Plus, I think they want him back in to try and get good Eli back in the building.

Sounds like Sullivan's HC pursuit ain't goin' so good. Maybe Sullivan could help Eli more as a QB coach. Giants actually do have better weaponry in the pass game than we do, so I'd expect a bit more success...

If Sullivan gets the gig, I expect the Giants offense to perform well.  This offense performed very well last year and I expect it perform well with Eli running it.  It doesnt matter what offense you run, you cant perform well with the loss of half of offensive production, a rookie QB, and a terrible o-line.
