Hard pass on Jeff Bassa out of Oregon. Dude almost single handedly made our defense atrocious down the stretch.
I know it's a late pick so maybe it's fine but he could not handle any pre snap movement while in zone.
He's a converted safety and undersized. He would be a special teams player at best imo.
Far better Ducks on defense. Derrick Harmon could be a star. Muhammad will be a good outside corner.
Bassa not so much
Bowles wants to mix speed with size based on what he is doing because the Bucs on average have smaller safeties but larger corners. Smaller 3 techs but larger NTs. So that is why I wouldn't rule out Bassa as you want a guy that is a natural in space and the other LB to be downhill thumper. Technically Dennis was being groomed behind LVD but Dennis started to receive playing time to start last season at the other ILB position rotating with Britt.
Here's my "Trade down for Zabel" mock from PFN. I did several PFN mocks, but I always seemed to end up with Schwesinger staring at me no matter what i did. I don't think I was overdrafting him based on their rankings.

He's lost in space tho. Penn State saw the film and exploited it. Then OSU saw that film and shit on us... The rest is history.
Bredeson isn't guaranteed to start but he is an effective backup at center and guard with Klein and Zabel wins the LG job A line of Wirfs, Zable, Barton, Mauch and Goedeke is impressive.

i'd be shocked if Bredeson didnt start. He just signed a 3 year, $22M deal. That's quite alot for a back-up.
i do think Bucs might draft a guard for depth but talking third or 4th round.

Fascinating stuff to read as you guys go through these options because there are sort of two competing narratives.
if you start with "we are all-in for a Super Bowl run," Godwin and LVD back and Reddick even the Bredeson contract (line intact) are sort of consistent with that narrative.
Dropping back for a Guard, not so much. That might be the "best move for the team long term," but arguably inconsistent with "we are all-in for a Super Bowl run" when there are so many other immediate needs and such a great performance last season by an O-line with Bredeson.
PFN, did a trade down and a trade up. Traded White to Jacksonville as part of a trade up, designated value was a 2026 5th rounder.
21. Malaki Starks, S, Georgia
36. Mike Green, Edge, Marshall
114. Cobee Bryant, CB, Kansas
121. Charles Grant, OT, William & Mary
140. Jeffrey Bassa, LB Oregon
146. Kyle Monangai, RB, Rutgers
163. Shemar James, LB, Florida
I don't see Green lasting to 36 unless the dirt on him is a lot dirtier than what has been exposed to the public.
Thanks for your reply. Its Zabel's versatility that is the key. He can play all four G/T spots. It would be a rare player to think he could go in and play multipe positions in the same game. But perhaps he could do that, which would be the reason to make this pick. I envision Zabel backing up multiple positions so that they can decrease the snap count of multiple players on the O-line with no dropoff. Both guards had a snap count last year of 99%. Wirfs was about 90% and Goedeke about 80%. Zabel could get a snap count of about 15% at each of the four positions which of course equals a 60% snap count again. Here's my "Trade down for Zabel" mock from PFN

Bredeson could be an expensive bridge player. His contract is really two years/$15 mil. The 3rd year is non-guaranteed. The Bucs don't like to start rookie tackles. Eventually Zabel would take over as starter and Bredeson would be the super sub.
Reducing the snap count to 80% for all starting G/T spots with no dropoff would allow the Bucs to continue to dominate the 4th quarter running game and be strong at the end of the season. And in time the Bucs could develop their own version of the tush push. Will Licht draft Zabel? Probably not. But if they do draft him it won't be to pass out water bottles.
Thanks for participating I like to see other people perspectives. One week I think we should draft lb campbell 1st, the next week cb addae 1st and so on. lately th eplayers I am enamored with at the right price are Jemaree caldwell, luke kandra, and tai felton ,again at the right draft spot
I hope we draft a stud DL. I am greedy about the position and rotating quality depth. Vea, Kancey, Hall, Gaines and draft a damn nasty dog, I dont care if he is 1 tech, 3 tech, 5 tech lol

Unlike Edge players, this isn't how Offensive Line snap counts work. If the starters are healthy, they play every snap - excluding blowouts. If your Offensive Linemen are rotating in and out of games, it's because you don't have good Offensive Linemen and you're praying one guy steps up.

Yup.

I enjoy reading everyone thoughts on college players because I don't follow it closely. Appreciate this discussion even if we dont draft him. I think the tension between "all-in" and "long-term" always creates an interesting draft day dynamic.
We will all see soon enough
