The reasoning behind this mock:
1) We have the best deep threat in football for three years. Desean Jackson changes everything. We didn't sign him to help develop Winston, we signed him to make playoff runs. With that being said, I think the key to this draft is bringing in guys who can help us win now, and maximize the talent we have on the current roster.
2) The defense took a nice step forward last year. I'm looking for that to continue. I don' think we are near an elite defense, but I do think we can be a consistently solid defense next year. Spence and VHIII should improve, and I think Baker will help bring out the best in McCoy.
So here is a 5 round mock for you all to criticize
Round 1: David Njoku
I think PR is on point with this one. Njoku adds a dynamic passing threat to the offense. He is a freak athlete who can make plays all over the field. We run 2TE quite often. Evans, Jackson, Brate, and Njoku give Jameis 4 options who can beat the coverage in front of them. Jackson opens up the whole field. Evans can win at any level. Njoku and Brate can consistently beat coverage. We will re-sign Brate soon, so Njoku can pair with him for a good 4 years on a rookie deal.
Round 2: Curtis Samuel
I've seen this guy mocked rounds 1-4. All I know is he is a big time talent who ran the most low key 4.3 ever (it came right after that of John Ross). He is an instant impact in the return game, can stretch the field, and make plays out of the backfield. He has great wiggle and can change direction w/o losing speed. He's not going to be a day one #2 WR, but he has the tools to develop into one. He is going to be money on screens, reverses, and "speed in space" plays. Koetter can get creative with this guy. He can make an instant impact with package of special plays, and develop further down the road.
Round 3: Teez Tabor
Teez can play. He can't run a 40, but the dude can play. His recent 4.7 disaster at UF's pro day is going to result in a draft day free fall. VHIII played well in the outside last year, Grimes can hold down the other side, while Elliot and Jude play nickle. Eventually Teez can develop into another great outside option with great depth for us. He brings a confidence and attitude to our secondary.
Round 4: Joshua Reynolds
Love this kid. Reminds me a lot of pre-cave man gang, pre rap career, pre party animal Mike Williams. Long, smooth, confident, and has a knack for coming down with jump balls. Can develop into a legit WR down the road. We lack depth at the position so I feel like it should be attacked twice in the draft. Can contribute as a red zone threat right away.
Round 5: James Conner
Powerback with some speed to his game. Runs with a nasty attitude and is a hard worker. Great story and off the chart intangibles. We should be able to find a consistent run game between Rodgers, Martin, Simms, and this guy.
