JD,Unless the Texans can find someone better than Schaub in free agency, they will absolutely will pick a QB at #1. After what happened with Schaub last season, there is no way they will be able to sell their fan base on him again. The Texans, may talk about taking someone else, but it's going to be a quarterback and as I said the least bustable guy is Bridgewater. I'd bet the farm on it.Also, with the Rams picking Austin last season at #1, there is less likely hood of Watkins being the Rams selection at #2. Bradford needs protection and that means that they will go with a offensive lineman at #2. I just can't see them taking Watkins. If they don't go offensive line, they will either take Clowney or trade the pick to someone that will.

^^ smart guy ^^I agree with every word. No way a new coach goes in there and hitches his wagon to Schaub....especially an offensive mind.
What if he isn't sold on Bortles, Bridgewater, or Manziel? But does like Carr, McCarron, or Garoppolo? You don't think there is any chance they wait and take a QB with the 33rd pick?Just doesn't seem like they would be shopping the pick and talking about several prospects if they were really sold on a certain QB as their guy. Also, Schaub counts as like $14M against the cap whether they cut him or he is on theroster....so it would make sense for them to try and get him to restructure.
If Watkins and Clowney are off the board. You trade back.
This is how I see it playing out. Do you take Jake Matthews? Mack? What if we already signed Brendan Albert and a stud DE? 1. Texans - Greg Robinson2. Rams - Sammy Watkins3. Jaguars - Teddy Bridgewater4. Browns - Johnny Manziel5. Falcons - Jadeveon Clowney (trade up)6. Raiders - Blake Bortles7. Buccaneers -
I agree with you here on Watkins. I'm seeing all these mocks having the Rams draft a tackle and I'm wondering how they pass up on an elite receiver prospect, especially when it's "all about" Bradford.
Problem is, JD - once they pass in round 1, they lose control over the position. It seems to me that coaches/front offices in the NFL are pretty specific about their QBs - it's not likely that they are willing to take any of the Carr, Garoppolo, or McCarron group - they might like one of those three. It's a lot different than other positions. And if they pass on 1, every team coveting one of the remaining QBs knows they have to jump in front of them. I think the only way they pass on a QB at 1 is if:a) they truly don't like any of the Bortles/Manziel/Bridegewater group;b) they are trading down a handful of picks and like more than one or are willing to take a QB higher than expected (Carr, maybe?)
I worry about all these speedy receivers so early in the draft, I mean sure its exciting. It'll put some fans in the seats, we'll have a speed demon in the slot (at the very least). It's definitely a sexy pick, but I'm not sure it's the pick I would make. No complaints if we get him though either, he's a great athlete.

Schaub literally cannot throw the ball at an NFL caliber level anymore. His arm strength was below average in his prime and now with age he's got nothing on it and he's getting pick 6'd all over the place. By releasing him they save $3.6M on the cap and $10.6M in cash.
That. ^

Doesn't matter. If Houston doesn't select a quarterback at #1, the fans will crucify the coaching staff. If they pick Bridgewater over Manziel, that might anger some fans. There is absolutely no way that Houston doesn't pick a quarterback at #1. The only real question is if they bow to fan pressure and pick Manziel over Bridgewater. Also, how can you even tout any of the top 3 quarterbacks and then say what IF the Texans don't want any of them and are willing to settle for less at the quarterback position. Bridgewater might no be Luck or RGIII but he's a pretty good quarterback prospect.Houston IS taking a quarterback, don't buy into the smoke.

There are always teams looking to trade up. It just comes down to compensation. Even if the Bucs take a little less than normal. I'm fine with it, because we need more picks and we don't need to be picking that high.

You're correct, it's all about Bradford, but the Rams got there speedy receiver last year in Austin, doesn't make a lick of sense to pick another. Remember how the Lions got blasted for picking WR's at #1 two years in a row. Rams need offensive line help, I'm sure they will be looking to trade out of #2 and quite frankly I think they do so. Cleveland wants a quarterback and so does Jacksonville and Minnesota. Any of these 3 could pull off a trade and move to #2. Also there is Atlanta that might want Clowney. The Rams will have trading partners and really don't want this pick. They definitely are going to trade down.
Watkins is certainly a possibility for the Rams, but if they can't keep Bradford off the IR it doesn't matter who the WRs are. I think they are going trade-down or OL.

You are probably right, but if they can upgrade their O-line through FA, I think they go after Watkins at #2. Maybe trade back a few spots and still take him.
