Unless we through an obscene boatload of money at him, Monken ain't leaving or getting let go from Georgia. They got a dynasty brewing.
Monken is making over $2 mil per year. The average NFL coordinator makes about $1 mil supposedly. So yeah the Bucs could top $2 mil I suppose, but it would be a tough sell because there will be some nice college HC jobs out there for a guy who's been coaching at Georgia.
@catherder Read elsewhere that Monken wants back in the NFL. Think the Bucs would be willing to pay him well if they really want him. How much will it cost to hire Bill O'Brien? This is an important hire, worth paying for.
Well, on the Bucs side, Monken was not retained when Arians came on board. That makes sense, since Arians had his own offense to put in. Bowles will be able to make his own choice for OC, but Arians is still in the building. If I'm Monken I wouldn't be in a hurry to go work with the guy who was responsible for me being let go. But that's the business and that is probably water under the bridge to Monken, but still I don't see that he is going to prioritize the Bucs over other NFL opportunities.
On the college side, Monken has previous college HC experience, having taken his Southern Miss team to 7-1. Now he's the OC for a 2x national championship team who just put up 65 points in the championship game. I'd say he can write his own ticket on the college level. He must really prefer the NFL over college if he is going to take an NFL OC job over a HC job at the highest level in college.
Besides money, tell me what the Bucs have to offer a top-flight offensive coordinator?
