Tedford is a great offensive mind ....something we haven't had here in a long time. Not sure why some wouldn't be excited about that. Because Kyle Boller sucks ?? That's just stupid.

If he's so great, why didn't he have other opportunities?  Sounds like a qb coach, not an OC.

Because it sounds as if he is being selective , and also it sounds like he has made a deal with Lovie Smith.

until 2012 was HC at CalIn the year since then, USC has wanted him as an offensive consultant for their new, first time OC. He has also been reported to be Wyoming's target for their HC opening.

So what type of offense does he run? Power run? Spread? West Coast?

For the most of his Cal tenure he ran a pretty balanced offense. I'm sure you've heard of the QBs his offense produced, but you may not have heard that he also produced Shane Vareen and Marshawn Lynch. In his last few years as HC at Cal, he incorporated more Spread and option-read plays to keep up with some Pac-12/10 trends

Pro style system with multiple looks. Passing attack uses a lot of WCO concepts. It is a very balanced system and if you check his list of RB's he coached you will see a lot of familar names in the NFL.His offense was known to be very complicated in the terminology. Bright guy who got very good results in college. Now, the counter to that is that being good in college doesn't mean you can move up - Spurrier for example didn't. Thing is that Tedford's scheme is a lot more "professional" than Spurriers. What killed Spurrier was that he never adapted to the complexity of line play in the NFL because of what defenses could do. That is the type of thing you have to wonder about with Tedford.

He gets Kyle Boller held against him, who wasn't even his recruit, but doesn't get credit for Aaron Rodgers, who was. He put almost every RB he coached at Cal in the NFL. The WR's he's put in the NFL all seemed to have a relatively short learning curve. Tedford is legit. I'd be happy with the hire.

If you read some Green Bay Packers boards/fans comments, Rodgers was a mess when he was drafted by Green Bay, they say that his mechanics were terrible "Aaron Rodgers mechanics were completely changed under McCarthy in Green Bay. Rodgers came in with the typical neck high throwing position that he teaches his QB’s. That clearly does not work in the NFL. McCarthy knew that right away and promply started to rebuild his mechanics ground up.""Packer fan for a long time and remember seeing Rodgers in mini camps early on. He was awful. McCarthy is never recognized for taking a great arm and great QB mind and changing his mechanics so that he is arguably the best QB in football. All this while “trying” to coach Favre."just saying .... of the QBs they list as his "students" the only one to have any success in the NFL might have been due to who is NFL coach was more than Tedford.

They aren't hiring him to be a QB coach.Plus, he taught what got his players to win for him. He wasn't coaching for an NFL team he was coaching in college and his methods obviously worked there.

I can't say whether Tedford taught Rodgers to throw like that or not, but Rodgers was only at Cal for two years and didn't even get there until he was almost 20. His dad was a college football players who taught him the game. It's very possible his motion was already like that by that time.

if he is not being hired as an QB coach then listing his QB students doesn't make much sense. List the offensive rankings of his teams during his coaching career. If you (not you personally) are going to try to sell him using his past QB students then it anyone's right to call him out on how unimpressive his students were at the next level. if the BIO was "constantly had his offence ranked in the top 10/20 in Division 1 NCAA" then yeah, lets look deeper into him but to come out and say "some of his former QBs were BUST, BUST 2, BUST 3, BUST 4, Game Manager who won a Super Bowl on the back of an all time great defense and a top 4 QB who might  or might not have been "re"coached in the NFL to succeed" really is not that impressive. Just like celebrating because someone was fired, i hope the Bucs don't settle for someone just to have someone new. They don't need someone who is just new, they need someone who is right

What is disheartening are all the comments that go something like .... at least he would be an improvement over "insert old Bucs coach/assistant here"that is not what wins championships, that is what gets you back to cleaning house every 2 or 3 years and starting over. The new hire candidates should not be compared to the previous staff, they should be 'graded' against their past performance, track record and foreseeable potential

Again, there are only 32 starting NFL QBs and only roughly 20 of them are any good. The good QBs play for 15 years. How many good QBs do you expect to come from one college out of 120 D-1 schools that is not a recruiting power?

Where are "all the comments" along those lines?  I'm not seeing very many, if any, in this thread.
