An OC making bad QBS look good because of his superb system is a problem... only on the Red Board....
so the Bucs should look at Dan Mullen (Tebow) or Brad Scott (C Ward) because they too made bad QBs look good in the college ranks. here are the yearly rankings of Cal's offense the past 7 years (that is as far back as the NCAA site has them)2007 - (total) 50th (scoring) 50th2008 - (total) 47th (scoring) 27th2009 - (total) 49th (scoring) 47th2010 - (total) 90th (scoring) 73rd2011 - (total) 44th (scoring) 53rd2012 - (total) 69th (scoring) 91st2013 - (total) passing 10th, rushing 107th (scoring) 99thi just don't see where all the Tedford love is coming from. the past 7 years his offenses have been average at best
Tedford may end up being a poor hire. What do I know? But in his heyday he interviewed for a couple NFL head coaching jobs. He's been on the NFL radar for a long time. It's not just about numbers. Picking the coach with the highest rated offense is just as superficial as picking the QB with the most passing yards. For better or worse people think favorably about Tedford's "style" and think it could translate to the NFL.
he didn't coach anywhere this year.

OK

I think it should also be taken into consideration that since his heyday he has had an OC position in the NFL and from the numbers (which is the only thing i have to go off) it look slike his heyday has past. is it that his scheme is old now (think Tampa 2) or just that others schemes have out produced his, i don't know but i think after the last handful of seasons the next person running the Bucs offense should be someone who is proven commodity not a hopeful projection. i can't get excited for "coulds" and "shoulds", Schiano's teams could have and should have been better. I would rather hear "with so-and-so on board the offense will flourish" rather than "if so-and-so's scheme can translate the offense could flourish"

There are no sure things. Everyone available has failed at some time and been fired or never done what we'd be hiring him for.
and if you limit yourself to just avail. NFL coaches...well that's the reason Greg Olsen still gets hired every year.
Dirk Koetter in Atlanta has had a similar trajectory. He coached in college the first 22 years of his career, culminating in an unremarkable 6-year run as head coach at Arizona State. He then spent 5 years as OC for Jacksonville and just finished his second year with the Falcons. Despite major injuries and one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL, Atlanta just had the #14 total offense after being #8 the year before.
So, let's assume Tedford is the guy...Who, in this draft is he drooling over at the QB position?

they should not be looking at only available coaches, they should be looking at everyone and seeing who would be best for what they want to accomplish. if the coach is not available that shouldn't stop them from trying to lure him away from what ever team and get him to Tampa. (unless of course that team doesn't allow him to talk to the Bucs) They don't need to hire someone who failed, they could hire someone who is succeeding right now. bring someone in that is a proven commodity. commit to winning not to trying!

He could end up liking Glennon. Who knows? But for players in the draft you'd just have to assume any of the conventional drop back passers like Carr, Mettenberger, and Murray. Possibly Hundley is he comes out.
Bill_Kir, please give me your list of proven NFL OC that will be available for hire at the OC spot.

I don't want Tampa to be to Tedford what Jacksonville was to Koetter.

You can't "lure" coaches that have contracts with other teams.

why do they need to be available? why can the Bucs not lure someone away from another team? why do we insist that the Bucs have to settle for anything? settling got them Morris and Schiano.

Because contracts exist and are legally binding.
