More shifts at DB: Verner to corner, Jenkins to nickelGreg Auman, Times Staff WriterTuesday, December 15, 2015 The Bucs may be making another shift in their defensive secondary after giving up 300-plus yards in Sunday's loss to the Saints, with nickel Alterraun Verner practicing with the cornerbacks Tuesday and backup corner Mike Jenkins now working at nickel with Keith Tandy.Verner was flagged for a costly defensive holding penalty on the Saints' final drive -- instead of the Bucs getting the ball back after a third-down incompletion, New Orleans was able to run out the clock. The Bucs are unlikely to take starter Sterling Moore off the field, but Verner could challenge rookie Jude Adjei-Barimah, who has started the last six games but was beaten in coverage some in Sunday's loss.Jenkins has barely played in the last six games, getting a total of 18 defensive snaps after being dropped from his starting role at cornerback. He could provide better run support out of the nickel as the Bucs face a tough runner in Rams rookie Todd Gurley. Tandy, who moved from backup safety to nickel two weeks ago, has played 10 snaps at nickel in relief of Verner in each of the last two games.
