Countdown to Cannons: Murray's Big LegJustin Pawlowski @CommishOnlineJul 15, 2015 With 31 days to go, we countdown the days until the Bucs' 1st preseason game, and discuss a different Bucs player at length every day.Countdown to Cannons: 31 DaysWe've already made it through 23 players on the Bucs current roster with our countdown. The goal is to write a story about a different Bucs player each day leading up to their first preseason game. Since someone wanted to try and be a smart a** and ask when we'd be writing about the Bucs kicker or long snapper, I figured I'd jump the gun and write about Patrick Murray.Murray joined the Bucs last off-season as a long shot to beat out incumbent Connor Barth. Barth was coming off an injury, but he had proven to be one of the more accurate kickers in the NFL with the ability to make clutch kicks. Even with that said, Lovie Smith and Jason Licht made the bold move to cut Barth and ride the Murray train.Murray has not only brought a big leg to the Bucs, but he has the ability to elevate kicks in a hurry to avoid blocked kicks. Murray was very good during his 1st season with the Bucs, making over 83% of his kicks. Murray was outstanding beyond 50 yards, making 5 of his 6 attempts.Murray's strong leg might also make him a candidate for kickoff duty. Remember, currently, Michael Koenen has that responsibility. If the Bucs decide to move on from Koenen, Murray should be able to step into that role with a seamless transition.
