Why is the Bucs window limited? How many teams with elite offensive lines are ever bad?
i dont know, i just see a huge drop off once the likes of Evans and Godwin leave. It's not like those type of WRs grow on trees.
plus with David gone and Vea likely not much left in the tank, i just expect the team to take a step back in 3 years
again, we can't even predict the upcoming year let alone 3 years from now but just saying if we want to win a Superbowl we likely have a better shot with Evans and Godwin still playing at a higher level.
i mean shit, in the years post Joey Galloway/Antonio Bryant, we had 3 years of our receiver leader not even getting 1,000 yards in Mike Williams and Kellen Winslow.
We then traded for Vincent Jackson who for 2 years was a stud until we drafted Evans in 2014.
from 1990 to 2000, the Bucs did not have a WR surpass 1,000 yards. Different ball game back then but dont take it at a foregone conclusion.
I’ve seen several articles of trade packages and fits from the falcons to lions to packers to patriots to commanders to bills. None mention the Bucs.
if we somehow did get Garrett we’d most likely lose Godwin sadly. Would it be worth it?

I don’t see how they are connected
we cut dean, restructure wirfs, mayfield and Winfield, extend Evans and we got like 80 million
also Godwin has like 18 million of dead cap space. Think it works out like he’s cost 18 million against the cap if he leaves or like 13 if we sign him to like 22M a year.
we need to retain Godwin
I think Licht has some obvious moves and I think he's better at finding gems in FA than signing the big ticket player.
The obvious moves have been mentioned.
I'd rather go after Crosby if we're gonna mortgage picks.

That's where that Feb 27th date I threw out came from...If he can be re-signed before that then the void year 18mil dead cap gets pushed down the road, if not then that 18 mil hits this years cap in addition to whatever his new yearly salary for the new contract would be (if re-signed)

Daggum it Fire!! You just made me drool in my coffee.
Honestly, would be fine with two seconds too. I know this team has defensive issues elsewhere like CB and LB but we're talking about a player who will elevate the defense in every way. I'm OK trading pick 19 away and another pick for his services. Guy is a freak athlete and has probably 3 more years of elite ball ahead of him.I'm for it
What compensation you good with? Would you give up a first rounder? I'd be good with two 2nd's.
Garrett-Kancey-Vea-Diaby would be dominant, top 3 unit

Wirfs, Goedeke and Mauch are 26. Barton is 22. These guys haven't even hit their prime yet. They will drive the team. You put alot of focus on WR but the most yards from a WR that made it to the conference championship was 1096, which was 15th in the league.
I would be (happily) surprised if we managed to get Garrett ,but its worth at least considering whether he would be the best use of scarce resources.
I say that because the NFL is always changing.
In 2024 NFL leading teams in sacks per game were still in the 3s per game BUT individual sack totals were down, right? 2023 there are 8 guys with 14 sacks or more. 2024 only two.
A few reasons . .
teams running more. Most playoff teams had successful RB and/or QB run games . That means less rushing downs and less "pin your ear back" rushing downs, for multiple reasons (down and distance, mobil QBs, running on 2nd and long)
Teams passing quicker and shorter, maybe? Officiating, maybe?
And . . . more defenses emulating Todd Bowles! Kidding, but mean the rise of overloads, fake blitzes, zone blitzes etc to get pressure

As a former Browns fan who followed Baker to Tampa this is exactly why I created this thread
... and FRT, I've also been a Bucs fan since their inception
So you'd give up 2 potential cornerstone players for the next 10 years for a guy who maybe has 5 years left( one rookie contract)?
I would, yes. Potential is just that - potential. Myles Garrett is a proven commodity and cornerstone at arguably the team's biggest position of need.
While I generally agree that potential is potential, I'm still wary of a player who has peaked and the twilight of his career is coming sooner rather than later. The other side of that as has been mentioned is dude IS going to want a new deal. How much would that run, and would it hamper us from adding more pieces in the future to further improve the team while the window is open, and still have cash to re-sign or high priority FA's ? A first this year and a third next year and I'd be on board....2 firsts and a third I think is too much, unless we got a second round pick next year in return as part of the deal.
Reggie White played for the Eagles for 8 years then went to the Packers for 6 and had 68.5 sacks which set a Packers record at the time
Garett is still peaking
Garrett's sack totals since his rookie year (2018):
7
13.5
10
12
16

14

I've said for years now that Garrett is a mutant freak, in the same strain as Barry Sanders/Jerry Rice/TO/Reggie White/LT/AD/etc.
He's not a normal NFL player. He's not going to fall off a cliff when he turns 30. Yes, eventually Time will catch up with him, but not any time soon.
@maddoc White was absolutely a rare breed, but please correct me if I’m wrong..wouldn’t Garrett play as a standup pass rushing OLB in the 3-4 playing opposite of Diaby? Reggie was a hand in the dirt DE/DT..two totally different skill sets. And as it pertains to what FeelinDangerous said yes he likely won’t fall off a cliff at 30 it’s hard to see him still getting 10-15 sacks a year when he’s 34..not saying it can’t be done, but I would be surprised.
