From the Fab 5

"I just want to give you some reasonable expectations when it comes to Tampa Bay’s upcoming free agency foray in a few weeks. Your definition of “all in” this year is going to be different than Jason Licht’s version of “all in.”

That’s not to say that there won’t be a big name signing in free agency, as I think a player like Ward or inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw would be a great fit in Tampa Bay. Especially if Greenlaw came on a cheap, one-year prove-it deal, considering he missed most of 2024 recovering from an Achilles injury during the Super Bowl the year prior.

But there is a way that the Bucs can go “all-in” with a far less risky approach. In some ways, it’s what the Eagles did last year in free agency en route to winning the Super Bowl. Read Fab 2 for those details."

if his idea of success is what we did the last 2 offseasons, we are in trouble. That would mean basically resign Godwin and call it a day

if we are ok with another 9,10 wins and early playoff exit then ok, but I think we should aim for higher this season. We survived the Brady dead cap hit years and it was enjoyable to watch. Now let’s take it from going the speed limit to 10 mph over

I think he is just saying that the model is not salvation by ONE splash free agent (Garrett), it is salvation by numbers, especially for a team that is desperate for multiple defenders and still with a load of dead cap.  The model is to find the next Barretts, not to pay for the Bauns.

Who is to say if Licht believes that, especially when some FA moves are as much about TICKETS and TV? I at least agree that the Bucs have limited $$ are more in need of a defensive RE-tooling than a single splash FA to push them over the top.

We need more GOOD players (plural), more than one great. I agree with that because we had mutiple guys playing SIGNIFICANT snaps last year who probably dont play on most other 2024 playoff team defenses.

Brady and Gronk basically fell into the Bucs lap.  Barrett was a free agent signing.  Licht has done a lot of trading up and down in the draft, usually moving a few spots in the first round or swapping picks later on.  And he's signed free agents.  But the 3rd for Pierre Paul may be the highest pick he's ever traded for a player.  I just don't see him trading away a first-round pick.  That's why a Khalil Mack signing is more likely than a trade for Garrett.

But nothing like that can happen until the Godwin situation is resolved one way or another.   They have to know where they stand cap wise to make any kind of big move.   They are rumored to be working on a Godwin deal which seems to be something that will get done, but if they don't get it done before free agency opens up then he's gone because the Bucs need to know who else they can go after.  Godwin's agent knows what he can get out there, and either Godwin is coming back, or he isn't.  There won't be any "testing the waters."

Licht with the GM Speak

"For every one that makes it, there’s three that don’t, and you want to make sure you’re getting the right one,” Licht said of edge rushers. “And throwing money, huge money, isn’t always the answer. That can hurt you in other ways. People talk about wanting a certain player that we should trade the farm for and is going to be the answer, but why wasn’t he the answer for the team that he was on? You know, and I’m not talking about one particular player. But we’re always looking for [a top edge rusher].

“I will say that I am excited about YaYa [Diaby]. I think YaYa quietly was one of the better edge players in terms of his pressures and hurries. And I know that you don’t like to hear that; you want to hear sack production. But I think he was just almost there and he’s going to get there next year. I’m really excited about [Chris] Braswell for his second year. I think he’s going to shock a lot of people, just knowing the kind of person he is and the talent that he has. We’ll look at all avenues for edge rush. We do need some depth there. We do need some help.

“From trade to truce and beyond: the Browns and Myles Garrett reached agreement today on a record contract extension that averages $40 million per year and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money and now makes him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, sources tell ESPN. Garrett’s agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports and Browns GM Andrew Berry finalized the deal today”

Licht is excited about the player he drafted foolishly in the 2nd round when better players were available and it looks like we have a bust on our hands?

Ok yeah sure but like... Again what else is he gonna say? Braswell has been disappointing and I wish we picked someone else?

Braswell could very well improve and come on late and I'd love to eat that crow.

But I just do not see it happening. Time will tell but he looked small and slow to me. Borderline looked like a weak side LB out there.

Money talks..he wants to win but ultimately he wants to get paid and ride out into the sunset.

Don't get to have your cake and eat it too. Same with Crosby.

When you take these massive contracts you're putting the team in a tough position to build talent around you.

Happy that they got their bags and they are well deserved but these 2 teams aren't winning shit.

Likely yes. It's still early so perhaps he comes on late but nothing stands out... And I see these Georgia and Bama loaded defenses and like 2/3 of the players get drafted... But they can't ALL be that good.

So he needs to take a big leap this year... And I hope he does and I hope I'm wrong.

Otherwise it looks like we found the lemon in a crimson sea of talent.

He came from a small school so I would say people were calling for him to be benched so he could add strength and figure it out.

But still a point well taken
