He’s going to fall somewhat, whether he makes it #26 is the only reason we’re talking about him.
Still, playing two years against mostly Pac12 competition will be a lot different to what he see’s every week in the NFL. If I were a doctor, I would not put my stamp of approval on that… if I’m a GM that’s considering their NFL future - I’m thinking like 9 out of 10 doctors.
He also doesn’t play the run like TB likes his EDGE to play.
Big talent, bigger risk?
I wouldn’t want to burn the house down if he falls to 26 and we take him. Just don’t see Licht doing this.
Ellis in the 2nd is better value than Latu in the 1st. Question is does Ellis fall to 57?
I don't like the idea of a center at 26, but I do have a first round grade on Jackson Powers Johnson and I know the Bucs love him. JPJ in the first and then Ellis in the 2nd would be good for me.
Please, please, pretty please for Jackson Powers Johnson.
Normally I am not crazy about a team drafting an interior OL in round 1 but JPJ is an exception because he not only is a day 1 starter but he has the potential to be an all pro early.
If he's that good, then he won't last until 26 or even close enough for a small trade up.Normally I am not crazy about a team drafting an interior OL in round 1 but JPJ is an exception because he not only is a day 1 starter but he has the potential to be an all pro early.

Oh, he's that good. I'm hoping against hope the stars align and he falls to 26. Now, if an edge rusher is there with the same talent level, I wouldn't mind if the Bucs went in that direction. I just think with the issue our QB has with batted balls, we need to give him superior protection up the middle and JPJ would be the pick.
I just remember Bucs fans were hoping Quentin Nelson would be drafted by the Bucs. That turned out to be a pipe dream as he went 6th and the Bucs drafted 12th and picked Vita Vea. I see JPJ going 10-20, no later than 20 to the Steelers who need a center. I've seen several mock drafts giving him to the Steelers. To trade up to 19 is going to cost at minimum a mid 3rd round pick and probably some change with that since our 3rds are kind of late in the round. So would you give up a 3rd this and say a 4th next year to move up to get JPJ?If he's that good, then he won't last until 26 or even close enough for a small trade up.Normally I am not crazy about a team drafting an interior OL in round 1 but JPJ is an exception because he not only is a day 1 starter but he has the potential to be an all pro early.

NFL.com Peter Schrager has him lasting into the 2nd round with the Bucs picking Graham Barton out of Duke. So I'm hoping his prediction is correct except we pick JPJ instead of Barton. As far as trades go, I'll let somebody with more time evaluate trade values, but I wouldn't mind JPJ as a Buc even if trade experts say we didn't trade well.
Centers are less valued than RBs. Mangold was a cleaner prospect than JPJ and he fell to 29.He might make the Hall of Fame At one point I saw Creed Humphrey ranked as high as 7th on people's big boards and he fell to 63. A small trade up could have solved this problem but keep hyping up this GM
Seems like the better play would be trading DOWN 5-10 spots and drafting WVU C Zac Frazier. We could pick up a late 3rd or early 4th in the trade.
We have many needs to fill - C, G, Edge, CB3, WR3, TE1, ILB, and RB2. We need to come away with at least 4 starters in this draft.
Trading down to get Frazier and picking up an extra 3rd would give us 5 picks in the top 3 rounds. That would enable us to draft C Frazier, Edge Marshawn Kneeland, WR3 Pearson, CB Andru Phillips, ILB Trotter, Jr. with the first 5 picks. All would contribute immediately. Then draft TE Theo Johnson in round 4.
Zach Frazier will be a good starter but that's 3rd round value. The reason you take JPJ in the 1st is because you expect him to be All-Pro
My gut says we aren't drafting an O-line in the first round. Other than Wirfs, Licht has never done that. That's why in my mock I have the Bucs taking Amegadjie in the 2nd round and Sundell in the 4th. Amegadjie will convert to guard and Sundell to C. I don't think Licht is looking for plug and play well known names.
If Newton were to fall to #26, I’m running to the podium.

During that draft there was a lot of post above not drafting a G that high. I dont follow the Colts, but even though hes played well the team hasn't done that much? I think his first year maybe
The Colts were not a bad rushing team, but only in 2022 did they get near the top of rushing yards with 2nd place. They had Jonathan Taylor as their back. Much as we need a guard, you have to wonder if spending a first rounder on one is a good idea. A guard is going to make a difference, but so will an OC who can scheme open some running lanes (no offense Canales).I just remember Bucs fans were hoping Quentin Nelson would be drafted by the Bucs.

I can’t imagine the Bucs drafting a 6’5” center in the first round (especially for a 6’0”/6’1” QB), and while the first round is kinda high for a Guard, it’s not unheard of later in the round, down near the bottom, where we pick.
Depends on whether the Bucs value he & JPJ as highly as the media and fans?
I suspect the Seahawks & Cowboys will NOT pass up the chance to add JPJ before we pick.
I bet Jason Licht has his iOL picks already game planned to select in the 2nd round… or later.
