So here goes, here are some things I would like to see changed in the not so distant future in terms of improving the NFL
Why does the NFL only dress 46 players on game day? Hell, those inactives practice all week and preseason, only to sit. How does that even make sense. The owners pay the same rate if the players sit or play. If all 53 could suit up, you would certainly have more options in your game plans, that's for sure. Keep players fresh and possibly avoid injuries.
I HATE specialists that take up roster spots, long snapper, kick returner, punt returner, kicker, punter, holder. I mean in all of the college ranks, there aren't guys that kick and punt? Guys that return punts and kickoffs? Offensive linemen that can snap the ball? You sure could free up some key spots like offensive Linemen and Defensive linemen in the trenches that could get a rest and come in fresh, either blocking for the QB or rushing for the QB.
Why is the fullback being phased out of the game. Hell, anyone remember Lorenzo Neal? He had a bunch of 1,000 yard rushers behind him, I sure would love to see an Alstott kind of guy on our roster, short yardage and hole opener for the half backs.
Why not use the practice squad guys on special teams? Yes, I know, some of the reserves are great special teams guys but obviously you risk injury to key players who can contribute either on offense or defense. If you lose a special teams guy to injury, there's plenty sitting on the couch, watching the game, probably a few selling beer at the stadium.
The bottom line to my thought process, is that key players always get hurt each year and the replacements just aren't the same level. keep your stars healthy by utilizing EVERYONE you pay on the roster, especially for the suicide squads and let the fans enjoy watching a superior product.
