Not sure how everyone else feels, however I have grown tired of ESPN and their constant attempts to reinvent the wheel. I mean they did essentially invent the wheel when it comes to sports coverage, but their poor revisions to their daily programming have finally pushed me away. You can say, "who cares, you are one person, they won't miss you". But that is not the point of this post. I'm not trying to organize a boycott as this is simply a post regarding my personal preference of sports coverage and am curious to see how other feel regarding this topic. If you are middle-aged or among the older demographic, where do you stand? Those of you who are younger millennials or among the now up and coming Generation Z, what are your thoughts?
I, like most of us have grown up with ESPN and SportsCenter on in the background throughout most of the day at my home. Depended on them for the majority of my sports coverage and updates, however, the past few years I continue to feel less and less interest in their daily programming. Most of us can probably agree that we have seen their coverage become more political, more personal, and more polluted with pop culture. This is driven to spark more interest among the masses and not just among the die-hard fanatical sporting community. I though am not amused. I like the news outlets I frequent to be to the point and not littered with filler, most of which I have no interest in.
ESPN has not only laid off many of the great personalities we have seen for years and added many younger, fresher, talking heads that would be a better fit on a show like Entertainment Tonight. The stories they put on air regarding athletes Twitter feeds and social media accounts are yawn fests. I don't care what athletes are doing off the field unless it impacts their performance or availability on it. Giving a nobody such as LaVar Ball a podium so that he can use it to detract from his son's career and try to grow his comical Baller Brand does not interest me. Why not focus on something like the NHL? I mean it's only the Stanley Cup Finals. Give me real news and real sports.
Well, I guess I need to begin to get used to Fox Sports One while I give them a whirl.
