I couldn't be more pleased that the Buccaneers have released Greg Schiano and hired Lovie Smith as the new HC. Lovie is a coach that I personally lobbied OBP to hire. I'm not dumb enought to think that my efforts had any effect on that decision, but it seems to me that he's the right man at the right time. This team needed a guy who understands the players, who can work well with them, who has a connection to this team's past glory, and has extensive experience as well as immediately respect around the league.I know that not everyone loves this hire as much as I do, but right now I'm pretty happy about it.

Seems like the reaction here has been pretty remarkably positive. There have been a couple of naysayers, but fewer than I might have feared.
I was calling for Schiano to be fired and Lovie to replace him mid-season. I'm just as happy as you are, DTG. :D

I just do not understand why Lovie Smith would presumably hire Tedford to coordinate his offense when he has zero experience call offensive plays in the NFL, has never hired an NFL offensive coaching staff, and has not recruited one NFL free agent to play in his offensive system. If he is some QB guru, let him cut his teeth in the NFL by coaching our QBs and hire an experienced NFL offensive coordinator who has had success at the NFL level.
With the number of guys that go straight to HC from college with no pro experience I think starting one at coordinator is a great idea. I have no doubt he and Lovie have spoken at length before this decision was made. Lovie is no fool and I'm sure he did his homework.

For the casual fan support that is HUGE. If you haven't noticed, the stadium hasn't been very full last few years.
