With Moore and Robinson gone it does feel like the quality OCs are being gobbled up quickly.  But I still think the Bucs have a window of opportunity to hire a quality OC with expreience.

I just don't see the Bucs wanting to go into the season with another rookie OC.

And, the rest of the division continues to get better.

Atlanta will be dangerous if they can find the right QB.

That might be exactly what they do

This feels eerily similar to last year's OC search.  This franchise and Bowles pulled a rabbit out of their hat last year with the Canales hiring and subsequent Baker signing.  Baker at this point is a 50-50 proposition to resign obviously due to him being a reclamation project and exceeding expectations.  His "feel good comeback story" that was hyped every single week ad nauseum will garner him considerably more interest leading up to this FA cycle.  I've stated this before but it's a very slippery slope.  Was it Canales' system and coaching that rejuvenated Baker ?  Or did Baker turn a corner and actually take his game to the next level ?   Does he chase the money and/or go somewhere that he has familiarity with a coach that he has played under previously, or will he show some loyalty and sign a team friendly deal ?

This is where I give pause.  This organization and Bowles pulled one out of their ass last year with Canales especially being the 10th coordinator to interview ( previously though he was 7th, but i stand corrected )  that being said Bowles had to give him trial by fire during camp sessions going against his defense in training camp to get him up to speed, the way things are looking that very well may be the case again this year, unless they ultimately end up going with Brian Johnson or Ken Dorsey.  Either way it will likely take half the season for the offense to start to gel, by that time will it be too late for Tampa to make a late season push like they did the last two years and back into the playoffs?  What I'm worried about is that we'll be just good enough to maintain the status quo, while never really improving and potentially being on this offseason rollercoaster again next year, or if that scenario plays out we'll be conducting a full blown coaching search next offseason.

Of course there's obviously the chance that everything could fall Tampa's way and we somehow manage to exceed expectations again and maybe make it to the conference championship, or the Super Bowl but nothing I have seen from Bowles game management or "killer instinct" give me much hope ( although if it did I'd be cheering my heart out while eating massive amounts of crow )

one thing is for certain...this is a pivotal offseason for our beloved Pewter Pirates, and their standing within the division and league over the next several years could hinge on every decision they make ( or dont make ) Buckle up !

FWIW the same guys have turned down coach of the year candidate Stefanski, Nick Chubb, Watson and a stellar defense

AVP makes sense since he wasn't permitted to call plays in Cleveland and the fact Stefanski was in his basement for the Yinzer playoff game

The Buccaneers put in a slip to interview Rams assistant Jake Peetz for their open offensive-coordinator spot. He'll meet with Tampa later in the week.

Well, we can now officially remove Dorsey from the list, as he's headed to the Browns.

The new OC search has started out well. Lol.

Bowles was quoted as saying "I need Indeed!"  It's quite clear that the Bucs OC job is no more desireable than last year when they had to  and that's because #1 Bowles still doesn't have a lot of job security.   A new OC won't be guaranteed more than a year.  #2 the QB situation is murky and there's no high draft pick.

Once again the Bucs will attempt to find the diamond in the rough out of the ranks of the QB coaches, somebody who hasn't called plays before.  So as has been mentioned we are going to have to continue to solidify the running game to complement the defense.    Will Mayfield want to re-up with the Bucs if they have another greenhorn OC?

Maybe, if it’s the same offense.

True, but then Mayfield has the leverage in contract negotiations.  He knows the system. Who are you going to bring in at QB to work with an inexperienced guy like Lewis?  Kyle Trask?  Another retread?  A rookie you draft late in the first round?  That isn't going to sell any tickets and probably isn't going to end well recordwise.  We need Baker back, but that's especially true if they hire Lewis.

I meant that they would hire Lewis because Baker was coming back.  The two things are connected

They would already know Mayfield's status by now, even if its not official.

Without Mayfield (or if there was any real doubt about Mayfield) they probably fire Bowles.  Maybe that still happens.  Who knows?

There are too many dominoes to fall without Mayfield because without Mayfield then does Evans move on*? If Evans and mayfield (and Cananles) are gone then wouldn't you be in the "full rebuild" mode you avoided the year prior? Maybe you keep Bowles for that since hes under contract and you dont have many options, but its not a crazy stretch to see them team start over entirely

(*hard to imagine Evans leaving by his own choice. The Bucs money is the $ he should want, but even harder to imagine him finishing out his career with a new QB)

Probably true they probably have a framework for a contract already.  But they still can't be 100% all in on Mayfield until the OC is hired, and nobody has talked about Lewis as if he's a front runner for the job.   It doesn't sound like anybody is the front runner.  I'd be OK with Van Pelt because he has worked with Mayfield in the past and he has experience at least.

I don't think Mayfield has the leverage Trask Force is giving him because he had a good year with the Bucs. He's had a couple good years in his career. His issue has been consistency.
