Probably true they probably have a framework for a contract already. But they still can't be 100% all in on Mayfield until the OC is hired, and nobody has talked about Lewis as if he's a front runner for the job. It doesn't sound like anybody is the front runner. I'd be OK with Van Pelt because he has worked with Mayfield in the past and he has experience at least.
I think DH is probably right that AVP is the front runner
Both Bowles and Arians have described Lewis as an OC and he is interviewing for that position right now with at least two teams. I think that only put him in contention because Mayfield seems to be coming back, but AVP would be an experienced OC with a deeper Mayfield connection.
I don't think Mayfield has the leverage Trask Force is giving him because he had a good year with the Bucs. He's had a couple good years in his career. His issue has been consistency.
agreed in terms of his value in the league
If anything he has the most leverage WITH THE BUCS, especially with Canales leaving and Evans hanging in the balance. BUT, he's also on record stating that players make sacrifices to keep a good team together
(FWIW, most FA contracts are not the result of some intense freeform negotiation as much as they are over where the market sits. There is an article today saying Mayfield earned a Carr-like contract. Many here says a Geno Smith contract etc)
Randle El in the house?
I met Randle... he's about 3' tall
AVP would be nice to have. Thad Lewis to me seems like a fail safe if the Bucs can not find an experienced OC to go with. Would the Bucs go with a rookie OC outside of the organization? Maybe for Brunell or Griese I guess.
#Panthers have requested permission to interview #Bucs WR coach Brad Idzik for their Offense Coordinator position, per sources.
the raid begins
I don't see an issue with that because the Bucs OC will want to hire his own people and will consult with Bowles. But that is why it is important the Bucs hire an experienced OC that has connections versus another rookie OC.
Arians and T. Moore have connections to help assemble and offensive staff for a rookie OC but it is much easier to have an experienced OC to do the heavy lifting.
We should just go by some fans logic on this board
"We haven't seen him call plays yet so how do we know he wont be great!"
Thad Lewis it is!
Reminds me of a joke. After a guy had surgery on his hands he asked the doctor "Will I be able to play the piano?" Doc says "Sure that should be no problem!" The guy says "Great! I've always wanted to be able to play the piano!"We should just go by some fans logic on this board

Monken or Johnson, please. Promote Foote to DC.
Monken or Johnson, please. Promote Foote to DC.
Monken and Johnson would be head coaching candidates only.
Johnson didn't even want the Commanders or Seahawks head coaching gigs let alone a coordinator position; i'd imagine we would be right in the "No" category for him as well
Not sure Monken would leave having a top 5 QB for a top 15 situation unless it was for the head coaching gig. He spurned us last year so neither of these guys are realistic options
Liam Coen will be interviewing for the job
Per Stroud
Bucs expected to interview Kentucky, former Rams coordinator Liam Coen
Good didn’t want him
The #Patriots are hiring Alex Van Pelt as their offensive coordinator, per sources.

Are the Byron Leg Humpers excited about their deity’s presser for his new gig?
