http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/bucs-search-for-oc-will-start-with-staffs-of-fired-head-coaches/2211977 The Bucs will be thorough in their search for coach Lovie Smith's next offensive coordinator.The interview process will start with offensive play-callers whose teams recently parted ways with their head coach: the Falcons' Dirk Koetter, the 49ers' Greg Roman, the Jets' Marty Mornhinweg and even former Bears head coach Marc Trestman.The Bucs are expected to request interviews with Koetter, Roman and Mornhinweg, although it's possible some of those teams may want to retain their offensive coordinator if they hire a defensive-minded head coach such as Rex Ryan.The Falcons are not expected to prevent Koetter from interviewing with the Bucs.Trestman, under whom quarterback Josh McCown enjoyed his most success, and former Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski are also candidates on a vast list that also includes former Vikings head coach Brad Childress, the Chiefs' senior offensive assistant.There are also some assistant coaches whose teams are participating in the post-season that the Bucs may wait to interview.The Bucs offensive coordinator's job is attractive for several reasons: the team owns the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft which will be spent on either Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota or Florida State's Jameis Winston; Smith is a defennsive-minded head coach who will turn over complete authority of the offense to the new coordinator; Tampa Bay is one of the most attractive residences in the NFL.The Bucs had the league's 30th-ranked offense in 2014, just ahead of the Jaguars and Raiders. Smith and his staff were dealt an unexpected blow when offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford underwent a surgical procedure to have two stents placed in a coronary artery two weeks before the season opener. Tedford went on an indefinite medical leave of absence and would only commit to working part time. He now is the head coach of the CFL's British Columbia Lions.Because of the importance of hiring the right the offensive coordinator, the Bucs declined an invitation to coach one of the teams at the Senior Bowl.
