So it looks like established OC’s are off the table?

A more established OC might not want to interview for a potential 1 year stint and a completely unknown QB situation. If Brady comes back, they've got to work around his wishes, which may or may not be appealing, and then prepare to develop a new QB the following year. It's not the best job available and might be the worst one, so the guys we're interviewing are the younger up-and-coming guys looking for an opportunity. All is not lost. We could hit the jackpot with a younger guy.

With regards to Bowles, I don't have a lot of confidence he can be the guy long term, but he was kind of hamstrung with the situation. Did he want to mess with the offense in the middle of the season with what could be Brady's last year? I figure, like SR had noted, that he felt his defense and Tom Brady could get them by until the end of the season. He needs to bring in who he wants and then we can re-evaluate at the end of the season. This is the way it must be done, even though we want to win the Super Bowl every year. This needs to be done right or we risk setting the franchise back again.

As to the OC, I want someone young with a fresh approach. Just need to make sure they really understand how defenses attack offenses and how to counter. McCardell intrigues me. I still remember him signing autographs at the Disney training camp after the Super Bowl year. The other two guys I'm kind of meh on. Not exactly guys that have stood out, but who knows. I also like the possibility of going after Brian Johnson. He comes from the Mullen tree, and that guy knows offense. He worked with Trask and the offense ran a lot of NFL concepts while he was the QB (Mullen typically was much more an RPO guy, but uses a lot of concepts and isn't afraid to mold an offense around the talent). So that could be a great potential OC considering the situation here. I guess we'll see who else they bring in.

Yeah, sounds good.  We had a young guy, but apparently his ideas weren't new.    Maybe an old guy can use his knowledge to think of some new schemes.   Age is not a factor when it comes to innovation in my opinion.

In any case, this OC search should make clear to everybody that Tom Brady is not returning.  It just doesn't make sense to start fooling around with the offense and think of new schemes and you still have Old Tom running it, if he even wants to run a new scheme which he probably doesn't.  If Tom doesn't want to announce his retirement, we have to do it for him, because we're already doing it halfway by this coaching search.  I don't think having Brady here another year as attractive as people think to an incoming OC.  Once you get his autograph for your kid what do you do after that?  You have to fit your offense into a small box, one that will work with Brady's limitations.   And you just saw the previous OC get fired because he couldn't solve that puzzle.

The Bucs need to make it clear they've moved on from Brady.  They have to make that leap.  Sometimes leaping results in falling on your face, but you still have to do it and take your chances.

why?

Just curious. I mean, from a business standpoint they certainly dont want to do that until they have to.

Most of the people posting here are way more dialed into the Bucs than the average fan and also more football savvy and the debate taking place here all season is, essentially, "its not Brady's fault, its the teams fault," so those people CLEARLY want Brady back.  Your basic fanbase is going to want that even more because some of them weren't even fans until Brady was here

I think SR actually answers a mailbag question from a fan who suggested they were duped into reupping season tickets :-)

This list of OC interviews so far is awful. This team hasn't learned anything and will continue to be a laughing stock post Brady.

The Jim Bob interview is somewhat interesting.

Comes from a fairly diverse tree with Reid, Perderson, Sirianni, etc.

Lots of experience in good schemes.

Interesting.  I don't believe Sirianni has ever worked with Reid/Pederson, but Reich has worked with Pederson - not Reid.

Pederson coached under Reid. Reich coached under Pederson. Sirianni coached under Reich.

Cooter worked with Reich early in both of their coaching careers in Indy and "consulted" with Sirianni last year. I'm not sure he worked directly with Andy Reid or Doug Pederson anywhere.

He was Jacksonville’s passing game coordinator this year under Pederson.

Also thought he was Off. Quality Control over in KC for a year under Reid (might be off by a year).

Duh. You're right - my bad.

Yeah, Sirianni left when Remeo Crennel was fired after the 2012 season and before Reid took over in KC in 2013. 2013 was when Reich and Sirianni started working together in San Diego, after they worked together earlier in Indy.

Thought I may have been off by a year.

But, I’ve read 2 articles just now referring Cooter working under Reid for a year. Who knows.

Either way, he’s had some experience under modern NFL schemes.

Could be an interesting fit.

I could be wrong.. but Klint Kubiak, Jim Bob Cooter, and Keenan McCardell as the only 3 names linked to us so far... that does not even remotely sound like the Bucs care to entice Brady back via the new OC in place. Its possible these guys arent actually serious contenders and they have someone or quite a few more people in mind.. but if these guys are legitamate options it tells me they already know Brady isnt coming back.

All 3 of these sound like names for a new direction - pass friendly, youngish, and not people are are going to be scooped up after one mediocre to even great season. These are rebuild candidates imo. They dont outshine Bowles, they dont have the resume to land HC jobs after one good year as OC with the Bucs, theyre not high profile enough to need to know who the QB is before accepting the job, etc

The Bucs need to move on from Brady. Grateful for the Lombardi, but 46 yo Brady will need a perfect O-line in order to succeed and that ain’t happening in TB. They should hire an OC with Brady out of the equation.
