It was just confirmed in today's PC with DC Mike Smith that they don't dictate firm pre-snap position in Off Coverage for their CBs. "We give our guys a little bit of flexibility in terms of where they feel comfortable. There's ranges in where we would like them to line up. We don't say 'hey, we would like you to be right here in this specific defense. We do give them <flexibility>...because based on their skill set. You know, Brent Grimes is going to play it a little different than Vernon Hargreaves."

We play Press Man sparingly. So outside of that, we're playing a ton of Quarters, Cover 2 Off Man, Cover 3 Robber, Cover 2 Zone (with some other stuff sprinkled in). While he doesn't say it specifically, the typical range in those coverages is going to be somewhere between 5 - 10 yards.

So when you see a boundary CB (typically VH3 or Ryan Smith) line up 8 yards + deep on 3rd and 4 and he gives up a simple pitch and catch Hitch or Slant, you don't say "DAMNIT COACH SMITH, YOUR DEFENSE SUCKS." You say "DAMNIT <INSERT CB NAME HERE>, GROW A PAIR, STOP PLAYING LIKE A BITCH, AND STOP UNDERMINING THE HARD WORK YOUR PALS PUT IN TO GET TO 3RD AND 4!"
