If one of these players slipped through to 19, would you be tempted to go offense in the first, and for which one?

1) RB Ashton Jeanty

2) TE Tyler Warren

3) WR Tetairoa McMillan

Tyler Warren is tempting but does that remind anyone of OJ Howard?

when looking at Bucs starting skill positions - guys like Mayfield, Evans/Godwin duo and Bucky all likely ranking in top 10

i would say Otton is more middle of the pack, arguably top 20 so in this hypothetical, i'd say go with the TE

that being said, as i've said in other threads, with a top 5 offense, and scoring damn near 30 points a game; i think we could use a boost on the other side of the ball

Presumably, we will have Baker, Bucky, and Godwin another 3 years; i'd even say Evans but let's call him 2 years; Same goes for the line Wirfs, Barton, and Goedeke.  Just resigned Brederson and Mauch still on rookie deal.

David may or may not be done next year; Reddick has shown to be a 1 year rental the last several years; Hall and McCollum are free agents in 26; big man Vita another year older and our best guy was not himself last year in AWJ.  Oh...just look at that, ingrown toe nail, Dean out a few weeks and the season hasn't even started!

Not at all. Howard was drafted based on his potential because of his physical attributes and not what he did on the field. Warren's last year at Penn State damn near equals the total production OJ has done in 4 years at Bama. Warren's suddenness to get open blows OJ out the water. Howard was an elite blocker I might add which helped his draft buzz. Pretty sure a lot of people were shocked about the pick when Dalvin Cook was still on the board.

If I HAD to pick offense its Warren and I'm not thinking twice about it.

Here's a legit sleeper offensive pick:  Grey Zabel.  If there's a shocker pick that throws everybody for a loop, this could be it.  Obviously, the Bredeson signing seemingly rules out this pick, but here's why it could still happen.

Daniel Jeremiah:

Zabel is a versatile offensive lineman with excellent toughness and awareness. He lined up at left tackle in 2024, but he has played four O-line positions during his collegiate career. I believe he’s best suited to play guard at the next level. In pass pro, he has quick feet, stays square and catches/absorbs rushers. His lack of length shows up on the perimeter. He allows defenders to capture his chest, but he still possesses the core strength and balance to stall their push. He shows the savvy to snatch rushers when they get overextended. I love his ability to fit up and drive defenders in the run game. He has a great feel on combo blocks, and he always looks to finish. He has a nasty playing style, but he doesn’t get caught off-balance. He's aced every test this offseason, from the Senior Bowl to the combine. Overall, I see Zabel as a Day 1 starter at guard.

Being able to play four different positions would give the Bucs a chance to reduce the snap percentage of the rest of the line.  Here's the 2024 snap percentage:  Wirfs 89%, Goedeke 79%, Mauch 99%, Bredeson 99%, Barton 93%.  So if the Bucs want to reduce those snap percentages, Zabel is the guy for that.  If you can train Zabel to play all four positions and you want to preserve the offensive line so they stay fresh and don't get injured you could reduce them to 80% each and you could still put Zabel in for 50 to 75% as a rookie.  Mauch has a couple years left.  Goedeke isn't resigned yet.   Bredeson only has $5 mil dead cap next year and zero dead cap the following year.

So to summarize, I don't expect them to pick Zabel, but if there's a shocking pick then that could be Zabel.

I think Tetairoa has the potential to be something super special. Would take him in a heartbeat.

But, there’s zero chance he falls that far.

Any of the following:

Jihaad Campbell

Ezeirauku

Tet - but he won’t be there.

Would love Warren, but don’t think he’ll be there either.

Hopefully, Haason Reddick makes #19 a luxury pick.

Egbuke at 19?..I think he may be the best wr. But I would prefer we go defense if certain players are there

We have a noticeable talent gap on defense compared to offense. We can't afford to miss out on a standout edge pass rusher or cornerback.

The talent gap between the defense and offense isn't as great as people believe.  That is why the Bucs have so far conducted a balance way of constructing the roster in free agency.

It is more accurate to say most of the cap space is gong to the offense versus the defense.  But that is because the Bucs still have a lot of Bucs defenders on rookie contracts and they must prove themselves to earn a second contract. Meanwhile the offensive players on rookie contracts are pace to earn a second contract so far with the Bucs.

The Bucs drafts on offense have been more fruitful than the defense which is why it appears there is a talent gap.  But coaching can change that paradigm which is why we need to see, Diaby, Kancey, Dennis, Braswell, McCollum, and Smith all take the next level up.  Just like Goedeke, Mauch, White, Otton, and Irving have shown.

@alldaway - it goes beyond cap hits and where guys are drafted. We’ve got a top 10 Qb, top 5 WR duo, top 5 offensive line. On defense we have what? Top 5 interior DL. And then no other position group sniffs top 10. Winfield is good, David is old. Zion is still living on potential. Yes, there is a big talent gap. And part of that comes with drafting in the last half of the first round every year. And missing on edge and MLB.
