Hmmmm....interesting how this guy would fit in as a Buc. Possibly put him at the Mike on 1st and 2nd down and slide Foster to the SAM. On third down, Foster shifts back to Mike with he and David as the backers in a nickel package, while letting Mack rusher the passer.

I think dalbuc nailed it on the head - it's not so much about success in the matchups, it's the beat-down over the course of the game/season.

So Clay Matthews would be a match up problem for us?How come Denver didn't think that way?Let's Keep drafting  280 lbs DEs and watch them get their asses whipped for 3 hours.

I'd be interested in seeing just how many LB's DONT have a difficult time when asking to cover a receiver in man coverage.

Derrick Brooks was one of the best coverage LBs I've seen. He often would take on a slot receiver in a short zone, and make the play. Remarkable LB!

3-4 OLB's rush on pretty much every play , so the "beat down" thing is bogus

That isn't where they take a pounding. They take abuse,as opposed to delivering it, on run downs when fat boys lean on them. This is why teams have big 5 technique guys to keep people off the smaller edge rushing types in a typical 34.  If it isn't wearing down can you explain why we don't see more of these 240 pound pass rusher at DE in 43s? It is a lot easier to find 240 lbs guys to rush the passer than 275.

We aren't going to have a DE playing at 240 even if he is a converted 3-4 guy. We will bulk him up.

I think if we are looking at passing down-only (or primarily) guys, it's better to wait. I'd rather take my chances on somebody like Dee Ford in round 2 than use a 7th pick on Mack if I weren't sure he could play 3-downs.

That's what I am saying. Justin Houston was a 3rd round pick.  If you need an undersized one dimensional pass rusher you can get great value in the mid rounds. SF got Corey Lemonier in the 3rd. Every year these guys drop to the 3rd round. That is where you get your one dimensional pass rushers, not in the top 10.

Danger there is that you do not know if at 15-20 lbs heavier he can carry the weight and keep his explosiveness.

Barr has the frame to carry it for sure .  He is tall and broad shouldered , but still thin....not so sure about Mack. Alot of his weight looks to come  from being ripped to the max already.Khalil-Mack-Ooo_7938.JpgDailybruin4-519X750.JpgUcla_Barr_080713.JpgQuite the difference there.

Well and Barr is listed at 260 already so he's fine. I don't see room for much more growth to be had on Mack - cripes is that dude maxxed out.

I think this thread is a good reason to NOT draft him.Play him in at another position.Put weight on him.Try this, try that.Change this.IMO, if your drafting a player with the 7th pick in the draft, he should pretty much be plug and play.

The weight thing is so overblown. A DE at 250 pounds is fine as long as he stays in that range. Simeon Rice, John Abraham, Elvis Dumervil, Dwight Freeney, and Robert Mathis never weighed more than 260 and still held up as dominant edge rushers. I'm not worried about him being a run stuffing end, you can scheme around that by using stunts.

If he is 255 that is ok. He is 245 by most reports and while 255 can hold up it is sub-optimal. 245 is asking a lot. The problem isn't even so much the run defense in the pure sense but the fact that being asked to take on those OTs is gonna drain him and leave him unable to be explosive when we need it.

Yep, unless he's another Strahan who played at 240-245, forget all about it.

I think he'd do better at Sam and then rush on passing downs. And then who do you put at Mike? Foster ain't no Mike.... been saying that for years. If he can somehow find some coverage skills then fine, but so far he's proven nothing to me.

Wow, I wish I would've thought about highlighting my 6 pack abs back in the day with eye black. He looks the part though..
