Guys, I know that we want to upgrade in a lot of places... but the draft can only get us so far. Development is also key. People talk about how we Must... MUST... upgrade everything from RT to CB to S to LB to pass-rusher to 3rd WR to RB. This is all bluster. Here's what I mean. There is ZERO CB's in this draft that are automatic upgrades from Hargraves and Davis. There are guys who can compete against them, but in reality, Davis and Hargraves are guys that still have a lot of potential and have proven they can play in the NFL, at times. There are safeties in this draft who are better prospects than our safeties... but, none of us are saying we should draft a safety in the 1st or 2nd round. Are there safeties in the 3rd round that are for sure better prospects than the safeties we have? No. Then, let's talk about RT. None of us are advocating drafting a RT in the 1st or 2nd round... which means that we aren't drafting a RT who will for sure be an upgrade. 3rd WR. Ummm... it is a THIRD WR... on a team that has two good TE's. OK, maybe we will draft a WR in the later rounds, but he won't be a guaranteed starter. How about LB. Well, unlike many of the positions on our team, we actually have proven starters on the roster who can start at LB. And RB. This is a crappy RB draft. That means that there are no elite RB prospects in this draft. None. And, if we needed a RB, then we would be signing Yeldon now - a guy with more talent than any RB in this class. For whatever reason, the Bucs don't think we need a RB. So, even if you think that it doesn't matter.
But... there are two spots on our roster that need starters. Not a want... a NEED. RG and DT. We currently have no one that we trust at RG. And, once we release McCoy, then we are missing a DT. Those two spots are actual needs. It stinks that we are in this position, as the best teams are able to use their draft to draft whoever the best player available is... especially in the first two rounds. But, the Bucs have no choice. They literally have no one to start at RG or DT.
With this said... my prediction is that we will for sure draft DT in round one and RG in round two. Bank on it. After those two rounds, then we will try to draft guys to compete at the other spots.
