The best option for OC is to hire, you, Bruce Arians for one year as offensive coordinator.   Bruce, we need you.  You got us into this mess.  Now help get us out.  Just one year.

1)  If you can't find an OC that you want due to the temporary cap issues, then don't rewrite the entire playbook just to bring in a substandard guy and then you have to rewrite it again next year.  The failures of past Bucs teams were exacerbated by the frequent turnover of coaches and systems.

2) You know the players.  You drafted Trask.  You know the cap situation and you were a party to it being created.  You are involved in evaluating prospects already.

3) You can just do it for one year until the Bucs clear the cap room and either a) are in a better situation to hire an OC or b) are ready to start over.

4) You hired Bowles.  You can help save his guy's job.

5) You won't be a threat to take over the HC job.  You should be able to just focus on the offense.

This is the best thing for the team, the team that you have been involved with for so many years.  They put your name in the Ring of Honor.  Now they need you for one more year.  You can do this.

can't imagine he'd want to join this mess, post Brady

i know Bruce talks a good game but he went out on a high note and the narrative is we won the Superbowl with him and went to shit without him.  If he comes back in any capacity coaching and the offense sucks, the narrative is gone.

He just wont do it

the problem the Bucs are likely having with OC is that they are likely pushing going with Gabbert/Trask, tanking this year to get a top QB next year

high quality OCs probably not interested in this on their resume to potentially be one and done

Yes, that's the problem.  They are apparently taking the whole Brady hit at once.  It's tough to get someone to come in to be OC when you are tying one hand behind their back the first year, even if you give them a grace period of a year you are putting them on the hotseat for their 2nd year.   You say Bruce doesn't want to do it, but does he want to ride off into the sunset and watch his team devolve into chaos?  He's the one so concerned about his legacy that he got pissed off when his coaches were let go.  But from what we hear he's not washing his hands. He's still heavily involved in the team. He's the one who retired for the good of the team.  If he does things for the good of the team, why wouldn't he come back for the good of the team?

Arians was part of the brain trust who put us into this mess.  He was on board when they got creative about the contracts in order to keep the party going.  Now he can help to fix the aftermath before he rides off into the sunset.   If he has the old-fashioned value of leaving things in better shape than you found it, this would be a way to do that.   Right now, he can't say that.

He has shot this idea down numerous time. It's a waste of time and thought. He's not coaching again.

When?  He just quit coaching a year ago.  His guy Leftwich has been in the OC job until recently.  Since Leftwich was fired, when has Arians made any comments about the subject?   I'm not saying this is going to happen.  I'd be surprised if it did.  But unless the Bucs can land a legit OC, which doesn't seem to be imminent, it's what makes sense for Arians as well as the team.

When?

Most recently, during Superbowl week.

We may have a problem attracting an experienced QB coach with a young OC who needs some support. I could foresee Arians taking on a part-time QB coaching role as he still enjoys working with players. But he doesn't want to work 12-15 hour days and who can blame him? He's 70 years old.

And what's he supposed to say? "Sure why not?"  And this interview was done before the decision was made to take the full Brady cap hit in 2023 (or so it seems at this point that was the decision).    Did they think about the consequences of "biting the bullet" as far as how it impacts the OC search?  Either they didn't think about it, which was a mistake, or they did think about it.  If they did think about it, then they knew they could be screwed and did it anyway, and perhaps there's a Plan B.  Perhaps that Plan B is Bruce Arians.  OK it's a huge stretch mainly because it isn't every day a head coach who retires comes back as an OC.  It probably hasn't happened as far as I know.  I just wouldn't totally write off the possibility.

Anything is possible, sure. Likely, no, not at all. Worth floating as a possibility, no, not at all.

Also, I highly doubt Bowles is interested in that situation... and if Licht were going to force it down his throat, then why not just blow the whole thing up?

Licht is forcing the Brady contract down his throat already.  The main person who is negatively impacted by "biting the bullet" is Todd Bowles.  Licht is not only making it tougher to field a team with a smaller salary cap, he's also making it near impossible to land a qualified OC who could help save Bowles' bacon.   So Licht is already forcing stuff down Bowles' throat.   Bowles needs a good QB.   But he had one last year and where did that get him?  What really he needs is a competent offensive coordinator, which he didn't have last year.  What he wants is not to go another year with a crappy offensive coordinator that will sink his chances of keeping his job.  If I am Bowles, I don't care who you get if he can put up about 25 points a game.  Just get someone who knows what the hell they are doing.
