Although the game wasn’t perfect, I’m starting to gain a lot of trust in our young secondary. Carlton Davis, Jamel Dean, SMB, and now Antoine Winfield, have a ton of potential. Davis is now in year 3, and has not only the look of a CB1, but a high end one.. He’s shown his potential by shutting down Hopkins last year, and made Thomas a non factor yesterday. That without an overly effective pass rush. Dean and SMB may have even more potential than him, as well as better ball skills. In the back end, I think Winfield is going to be legit. Great instincts and ball skills. His first pro game, he didn’t seem nervous or intimidated. He even lay’d the wood on the first tackle of the game. It’s obvious that Whitehead is the weak link, and may be replaced in the near future if his coverage doesn’t improve. As the confidence of this young group improves, I think they’re going to turn into one of the strengths of this team. I’m looking forward to watching them continue to grow!
