I don't think the lack of Godwin catches is due to the scheme, as much as the QB not going to him. I think it's become clear that Baker is overly risk adverse, yet still throughs interception worthy plays, which makes me cringe at the thought of him just letting lose. At the end of the day, he's just not getting it done, and we're running the ball a tad too much. At least there were some nice situational change up runs that hit for good yardage, but the middle runs need to be reduced because we just can't sustain the movement required in the middle with Hainsey at Center, and with Mauch in his rookie year. If Mauch can put on 10-15 pounds of muscle and work on his leverage in the run game, he'll be fine, as he does occasionally knock a guy out of there, but he's just not strong enough to do it right now.
Bowles, though, has no excuse for the continuation of all this.

This is fairly obvious to most. I have no idea why some people continue to think the result of every play is based on who the play was "designed" to go to. That's not how football works, but certain posters get this wrong on a weekly basis.
It's the same phenomenon on running plays. If a run on first, second, or third down nets 5+ yards, it's a good play call. If the run doesn't net much yardage, then it's a bad play call. It's a simpleton's mindset. There is way more nuance involved than that.

Bingo!
And, the film confirms this, week in and week out.
Of course the scheme plays a role in Godwins targets. Scheme is more than progression. lol. It impacts his role, the type of coverage he’s receiving and even opportunities for YAC
Canales even mentions trying to adapt and choose plays to get him in favorable coverages and get him more involved.
he played outside in Arians offense too and Evans came inside but generally speaking Godwin was in tight or on the slot probably 70-75% so he’s playing against lesser coverage, especially when AB was on the field or Gronk
Mayfield definitely has an impact too but come on of course the role in the offense matters

”
would love to just get Chris (Godwin) going and find the things that he does well,” offensive coordinator Dave Canales said. “Find the right coverage attacks to put him in the right spots. ... I love Chris and love what he’s about and I really believe in the guy.”

Coach speak?
Bowles says Godwin is injured but yet he RAN for a TD
”We were subbing him out a lot,” Bowles said. “He’s a little nicked up so, he’s not totally 100 percent. Nobody is, but he’s probably banged up more than most.
“For him to get the run for us was huge. I think it helped him out a lot. It helped us out a lot. So it was good to see him get into the end zone.”

SR Speak…
Traditionally, Evans has been a deep ball receiver with most of his yards coming when the ball is in the air on downfield throws, whereas Godwin has been the YAC guy. Godwin was 226 YAC this year whereas he had 527 YAC last year.
At age 28 and coming off a significant knee injury in 2021, Godwin might in fact be losing a step. New offensive coordinator Dave Canales has Godwin lining up outside about 30% more this season rather than in the slot, where he’s played primarily since 2019. Yet Godwin just isn’t creating enough separation and winning enough one-on-ones to get more targets from Mayfield.

Oh cmon guys. Lefty was awful and Canales is clearly better... but last year Lefty FED Godwin in the screen game. He designed plays to get him involved.
This year it has been much less. Than combined with him playing out wide instead of in the slot, his injury causing him to lose a step, and Baker's inability to process quick enough is why he's down this year.
We've got him running out routes over and over. CBs don't respect him deep and we aren't letting him sit in the slot as much and sit down in zone.
So it's a combo of things but Canales certainly is not trying to get him the ball. He's just giving Baker route tree options and Baker isn't finding him or trusting him out wide (where he isn't that great tbh).
So the scheme isn't utilizing his strength

You're right. A WR screen to Godwin was one of the 7 plays Lefty called over and over and over. There were those of us that lamented the predictable playcalling, including that screen. You yourself did the same thing, except it was in this very thread:
2nd and 7 and Canales dials up the laziest and most obvious screen you've ever seen.
Wut was that
It's almost an unwinnable position at times. How many WR screens to Chris Godwin would you like in every game?
So it's a combo of things but Canales certainly is not trying to get him the ball.
You mean except for the Jet Sweep TD Godwin had yesterday, right?

Oh Biggs. You'll never change.
I'm not saying I liked Lefty offense. I'm not saying I want that many screen passes. I certainly don't wanna see Palmer or Thompkins blocking on those screen passes.
What I'm saying is that there's no effort to get Godwin the ball on a consistent basis. They're running him out wide and there's very few designed plays for him.
That doesn't mean I want Lefty's vanilla screen over and over but that play makes sense to run to him once or twice a game on early downs for sure.
I mean we literally ran that play for Chase Edmonds yesterday...
What you continue to struggle with is context. It's your greatest weakness. That and batting cage locations...
