“The facts are specifically, we need to stop the run,” Jones said during a Thursday night press conference. “And we haven’t been able to stop the run in key times for several years. And when you have the kind of extraordinary pass rush that [Micah] had, then the way to mitigate that pass rush is to run at you. If the pass rush doesn’t get you ahead pretty big time, and you’re playing even or behind, then you’ve really got a problem in stopping the run."
not a reason to trade Michah lol, but he's got a point. The Cowboys have been bottom dweller on run D for years.
To that point, the Cowboys beat the Bucs in the 2022 playoffs. Brady threw 66 times, we ran 12 times.
The Cowboys went on to lose the next game to the 49ers who ran 32 times and passed 27. Some of that is game circumstances, but some of it is just the f-ed up nature of the Bucs offense in 22
@firebowles2023 I tend to agree with you. Ive seen media members saying this was as lopsided of a trade as Deshawn Watson or Russell Wilson to Denver.
I think back to Kalil Mack, his trade was also a media firestorm but in reality. It didnt move the needle for either team involved in that trade. Now I do believe Parsons will do well in GB, but im never a fan of giving up multiple 1st round picks for any veteran Non-QB player.
I dont think Dallas "won" the trade but I also dont think this trade is lopsided. Dallas has too many "stars" making giant money. This moves gives them salary flexibility. And GB better win after giving up what they did and I just dont believe in Jordan Love. I have a feeling in 2 years this trade will be looked at as no big deal.
Micah is a really good player, but he’s not nearly as good as the lore behind him.
Who was the last player that two different franchises offered the highest non-QB contract in NFL history to?
Not bad for being overrated.
I’m not privy to the Cowboys practice but all the reports are he practices pretty light, isn’t a great leader - team guy. He’s great for sure, just not sure he’s on par with Reggie White, LT, Myles Garrett. Not sure anyone won in this trade. Flashy and certainly news worthy. Good for Micah and his family.
Dont really follow contract, but is the difference roughly $6 million per year? I think thats roughly the APY difference between the reported value of the Jer-uh March handshake deal and the eventual deal with the Packers. Thats what Jer-uh was trying to save by reaching out direct to Parsons, a violation of the CBA?
Jones is not wrong though because the NFC teams are loading up trenches to run the ball. Adding K. Clark helps somewhat and those two first gives some boost for the future of Dallas but how does that help Dak now? Dak is going to be asked to carry a team once again it looks like. I do like Dak's skill positions on his team over Love's team with the exception of Jacobs.

Agreed and Dallas has struggled with run defense, but using a press conference to claim the trade was because they need run defense is classic Jer-uh ego-driven silliness.

It is impressive what Green Bay is able to get out of their no-name WR’s & TE. LaFluer is really, really good offensive guy.
Bucs Twitter has been pure entertainment since this trade went down.
These are actual tweets:
“No way I’d trade Yaya in that package. You don’t discard young, upcoming pass rushers”.
“Are you high to suggest adding Bucky as a piece. He’s more valuable than Parsons. He broke dozens of rookie records last year”.
”Why would we give up multiple first rounders for him? That’s insanely stupid”. - From someone who also posted how bad Licht was at drafting EDGES back in May.
“This would keep us from resigning guys like Otton, McCollum, and Vea”.
Love our Mensa fanbase.
All of these things can be true:
Packers got better
Packers paid too much
Parsons is paid too much
Jerry Jones is a blithering idiot
Packers have a much better chance of winning it all
Packers won't come out of the NFC
Parsons will have 10+ sacks
Parsons isn't great vs the run
The league has shifted a little toward being heavier with the run
These types of splash trades can easily fail despite people crowning the team a champion right away.
This will give the Packers a short window to cash in a chip
That window will also make it difficult to build for the future
Dude is a very expensive game wrecker. Sounds like Jerry’s ‘hot mic incident’ got him in trouble with NFLPA at the absolute worst time - and this was the only way out with the season approaching.
Throw out game prep for Philly.
Agree, more [public] evidence that Wily Jerry has devolved to Crazy Jerry.
Yeah, it was a CYA press conference by an owner who is trying to spin making a really stupid move…to the media/fanbase?Jones is not wrong though because the NFC teams are loading up trenches to run the ball

The emperor has no clothes…
And LaFluer is doing it with a streaky (at best) QB.Jones is not wrong though because the NFC teams are loading up trenches to run the ball. Adding K. obviously various sides to the story, but the thing that non one -- not even Jer-uh - seems to dispute is that he went directly to Parson even though he knew Parsons was represented. he overplayed his hand. It back-fired. Just own it Jer-uh!
Money talks (overwhelmingly) so this agent is overplaying this BUT . . despite all their regular season success (lol), this has been the word on the Cowboys for a long time. Its ONE reason I mentioned them as a "grass is not always greener" comparison to the Bucs and Licht:
"“You have no idea how damaging this episode is for the Cowboys as it relates to the entire agent community. We all talk and nobody would ever willingly steer their clients to that team. Make no mistake, they’ve never been a honest or good organization, but since [Jerry] so brazenly disrespected and went behind the back of a top player’s top agent, they are in serious trouble moving forward. This is really one of those ‘time to take the car keys away’ moments.”"
Micah Parsons is definitely in the Myles Garrett realm of talent. He's reached 13+ sacks since entering the league and his worst season as a pro playing 13 games, he still had 12 take downs. An all-pro talent, in his prime for 2 firsts and a player is a good deal for GB. Clark is a very good player himself but he's not in Parsons class. NFC North is a pass heavy division so its a good fit for Parsons and GB.
Still not convinced that is a super bowl caliber defense with the pick-up. Their cornerbacks are nothing to write home about and Jeff Hafley is still an unknown commodity around the league.
