What is the cap hit to dump Goldson?  We've got a lot of room maybe you eat the hit on Goldson this year to add a much, much, much more useful player.

Depends what you define as "dump". If he's traded he cost us nothing against the cap. If he's cut he counts $9M in 2014 and $3M in 2015. If we trade him after his roster bonus, he counts $3M against our cap and then we're done with it and the other team takes on the rest of the guarantees.

Trades cost us the bonus money being accelerated. Cut and traded has the same effect IIRC. Ugh, that sack of crap for $9m sucks but I might take that hit this year to get Byrd who will help us a lot more than the human foul.

His 2014 roster bonus is his last "bonus". That's the $3M. The other guarantees are in his 2014 and 2015 base salaries, which the trade partner inherits.

Whatever the number, it would be worth it to bring in a player who represents a significant upgrade to the FS position.  Problem is, Lovie has talked about how Goldson will be a valuable piece to the defense...which is discouraging to see that Goldson already has the wool pulled over the staffs eyes.

And Schiano told us all how much he liked Josh Freeman. I don't pay attention to any of this stuff.

...and the last two staffs have done the same with Davin, who is still reaching behind his back to take a paycheck without looking his employer in the eye.Could very well be coach speak, could also be a legit hope. Either would make sense.

Pretty sure if he is cut we have to take that cap hit all at once as a $12M one.

Maybe, I don't know. Never seen a contract structured like this where the player was ever in question of being let go.

I never have either, I just know if you cut someone with guaranteed money left it all gets accelerated to the year you cut him.

Overpaid, yes. That's what happens when you let good 27 year old players get to free agency. There have been players who have blatantly stole money from the franchise, Joseph is not one of them. He rehabbed from a gruesome injury and is one of the hardest workers, best team guys in the locker room.

So now we are paying players to rehab and be great locker room and community leaders...Dude hasn't played above an average level since '08. He has been in a downward spiral since. Dont want to hear about the pro bowl selections. That came from reputation alone. Reputation from being a 1st round guard and playing well in his first 2 seasons, and reputation based upon the rediculous contract Dom gave him. He has not been worth anything close to the deal he signed in a few years ago. There truly is no debating that. He isnt even worth holding onto at league minimum. He is ashell of his '07/'08 self. Its a waste of a roster spot for reputation alone...reputation that should be on "E" by now. Time to draft an OG who can actually stay healthy and can consistently contribute.

Accelerations come from cutting or trading players who receive signing bonus money up front. Goldosn didn't get a signing bonus, so his money doesn't get "accelerated", it just gets paid to him no matter if he's on the roster or gets cut.

When I "cut" him at Over the Cap, using their calculator, he turns into $9 million in dead money, but doesn't change the cap up or down.

Doesn't make him a thief like you're accusing him being. He had leverage in 2011 and got a good contract. You want to talk about thieves start with Antonio Bryant and Byron Leftwich.

Davin should wear a ski mask. He is straight up trash. I don't care about hard work and locker room. On the field he has been an overrated bag of suck for years.

Lol. He is absolutely on the level of Leftwich and Bryant. He has taken vast sums of cash and the Bucs have seen very little return. If anything he is Danny Ocean and Leftwich/Bryant are just 2 of his 11 subordinates.

Because it would be like having his contract on the cap but him not being on the team. So the salary cap total number would be unaffected with him getting cut. The big issue is that we would be unable to use the 9mill owed to him for any other player, hence the "dead money".

Joseph is a substantially bigger thief than Bryant and Leftwich. Bryant only stole a 1-year franchise tender after putting up 1,200 yards the year before while making like $800,000. If you put the two years together, we got over 1,800 yards for $10-11 million. That's not the end of the world. Leftwich made above average backup QB money for one year. He got about what Kyle Orton is getting from the Cowboys. Joseph signed his contract three years ago, has pocketed $25 million, missed 16 games, and sucked when he could actually suit up.
