1) Jameis is the no. 1 thing holding this team back. Yes, he's young and will improve. And there's no way the Bucs will cut bait for at LEAST 2-3 years (as they should). But he has to be better than this. The rest of the team is playing well enough to win. Even with Folk making that kick, 17 points is not nearly enough on a historically bad defense.
Winston is too innacurate. Even worse, he repeatedly makes DUMB decisions. I was so frustrated by balls he'd force deep or when he ran and should've thrown the ball away (and he then drops the snap). Winston threw at least 3!!! INTs that were dropped.
2) The Pats were playing a different style of defense (as I speculated). Taking away the deep ball, forcing the Bucs to run and play a short game. Winston couldn't do it and perhaps Koetter couldn't call it.
3) Gameplanning/playcalling is also a concern. Clearly, Winston struggles with decision making. But Why weren't the Bucs trying to play off the Pats secondary issues? Teams have repeatedly confused the Pats with bunches and switches and the like. I didn't see any from Koetter. He gets an F for this game.
Also, where were all the runs? The Bucs were gashing them yet Martin only got 13 carries. He had a 5.7 average! The Bucs had 16 yuards rushing! Even worse when you want to keep the ball out of Brady's hands. Criminal.
4) We can hate on Folk, but this is just a compounded decision from the idiocy of drafting Aguayo. The Bucs would have more wins with Barth right now. But not only did the Bucs lose a good kicker in Barth, they missed out on better kickers available. This is who Folk is. He was (and is) a clear upgrade over Aguayo, but he was a kicker who's career long was 56 yards.
Bad teams make bad decisions that compound. One big reason the Bucs lost tonight was because Licht drafted Aguayo.
5) It tells you something when the Pats don't kick a 52 yard field goal with one of the best kickers in the NFL. They believe their league-worst defense could stop the Bucs offense. That's damning.
6) Brate had a bad TD drop. Made a great TD catch after. That TD might've changed the game.
5) I noticed Hargreaves pressing a bunch (with Grimes off). Looked good. He then regressed and was playing far too off, giving Cooks too much respect. They picked on him, like every team. Barely tested Grimes.
7) The Bucs defense finally got a lot of pressure. Night and day. Brady was hit all day, great job.
8) Was that last false start a misnap by Marpet? Both tackles went right into their pass drops. Maybe they both false started at the same time.
9) I never like Romo the Quarterback, but Romo the Announcer is unreal. Instantly the best, by far, announcer in the NFL. It's a pleasure to actually learn something from an announcer and have insight instead of cliches. CBS replaced the worst announcer with the best. Bravo Romo for showing us what CAN be.
He also was critical of Winston (in a friendly announcer way). Talked about many ways in which he needed to take the next step. Two big things he said were accuracy and decision making. Without sounding critical, he had a lot of bad things to say about Winston - while also being positive about his potential.
10) Quotes from good analysts who don't do hot takes (forgot to write the names down):
"I don't blame Folk I blame the Bucs for allowing it to happen."
"No organization has consistently mis-evaluated and screwed up their kicking game more than the Buccaneers....."
"The #Bucs are very poorly coached."
