2014 NFL Draft: Potential Traders Who Could Move UpBy Erik Lambert - Jan 10th, 2014 at 12:08 am Cleveland Browns – Target: Quarterback Of all the teams in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft that have the means and the motive to move up, it’s the Cleveland Browns. They currently hold two first round picks, the 4th overall and another from Indianapolis. Additionally they have two third round choices. That given them plenty of ammunition to move up as high as they want to go after a player of their choosing. Both the Houston Texans and St. Louis Rams are interested in moving down, and the Browns are in sore need of a quarterback. Whether it’s Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles or Johnny Manziel the Browns can best gauge where each player would likely land and make their move accordingly. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Target: Pass Rusher This will be one of the more interesting teams to watch. On paper the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a very strong roster in place. New head coach Lovie Smith should work wonders for their talented defense but is lacking one very noticeable thing: a pass rusher. Defensive end is a weak point for the Bucs and was a big reason why their strong secondary led by Darrelle Revis and Dashon Goldson failed to make more impact plays. Holding the #7 pick, TampaBay is in good position to make a run at South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney who would be a perfect fit for the Tampa 2 defense Smith will install. Putting him next to Gerald McCoy could give them one of the most dominant defensive fronts in football, something that is demanded in Smith’s scheme. Since they don’t have many other holes to fill, they could sell out their 2014 draft to get Clowney. New York Jets – Target: Wide Receiver The 2014 NFL draft is rich in quality wide receivers but three names really stand alone at the top in Sammy Watkins, Marqise Lee and Mike Evans. Geno Smith is in desperate need of better weapons for the New York Jets and getting a dynamic playmaker in the first round is the obvious course of action. The issue is New York doesn’t select until 18th. By that point all three could be gone. Luckily some lasting fruits of the Revis trade may help. The Jets possess two third round picks that help add up to a total of 12. They wouldn’t have to move too far up to get one of those receiver, perhaps to St. Louis at #13 or Chicago at #14 at the cost of a third and maybe a fifth or sixth rounder. In return Smith gets his go-to guy who can take advantage of the attention heaped on the Jets ground game. San Francisco 49ers – Target: Defensive Line It’s hard to know whether the San Francisco 49ers have reason to trade up. Their roster is among the strongest in the league yet they still hold two second and two third round picks along with a host of seventh rounders. So if they have desire to move up it would have to be for a can’t-miss player. On the other hand, the team does lack explosiveness at wide receiver despite the success of Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin. They also can’t ignore defensive stalwart Justin Smith is getting old and it would really give them insurance if they could add a high end defensive line prospect to the pipeline. Perhaps an aggressive push for Stephon Tuitt out of Notre Dame or even an all-out rush to get Sammy Watkins aren’t out of the question with this team. Much may depend on how things go for them in the playoffs. http://nflmocks.com/2014/01/10/2014-nfl-draft-potential-traders-move/?utm_source=FanSided&utm_medium=Network&utm_campaign=Around%20the%20Network
No way the Bucs trade up for Clowney. I don't think the Bucs have the ammo to trade up for anyone. I think if they were to trade up it would be because they had a shot at drafting a QB...but again...they don't have the ammo and I don't see them giving up any future first round picks.
"Since they don’t have many other holes to fill, they could sell out their 2014 draft to get Clowney."Don't have many holes to fill? ???What about our last ranked offense for crying out loud!

Hoping that Watkins falls to us.

I'll pass on the slot WR at no.7.Last year I argued against Tavon Austin, who was a favorite on this board. Many wanted to draft him in the first round.Well, he had 40 catches for 418 yards 10.5 average. Tim Wright? 54 catches 570 yards 10.6 average.Sorry, but if you project as a slot WR I will not endorse you for a first round selection. Not no.7 for sure.

I've watched Watkins the whole time he has been at Clemson and he is an impressive player....but not sure I want to invest that high of a pick on a WR. Would rather try to trade the pick and move down and pick up another teams first and second. Pick up a player like Michael Sam from Mizzou and then maneuver to pick Brandin Cooks from Ore St. Watching him reminds me of Steve Smith. He would give the Bucs a dynamic slot receiver and return specialist.

Watkins projects as a #1 WR thats all that matters.

Yeah if we draft Watkins he's going to be on the field causing mismatches almost every play. Who the hell cares if he's in the slot . Look at what Wes Welker does for teams out of the slot.

I've always loved the "I'd rather trade down" nonsense as if it's a forgone conclusion that someone WANTS your pick and is willing to pay your price for it. Draft day trades are perfect storms of one team falling in love with a player and being desperate enough to shed part of it's future in pursuit of said player and the other team willing to turn away from their draftboard and wait a bit longer for the promise of getting some extra ammunition to work with.As for those who say the Bucs don't have enough ammunition to trade up - of course they do. They could trade their entire draft. They could trade future draft picks. It's all what they're willing to surrender in pursuit of Clowney or one of the Big 3 quarterbacks.
My dream scenario would be to grab a lineman and DE with free agency and then go Watkins in the 1st and ASJ in the 2nd.Watkins will be much more than a "slot WR" and will be a stud in the league regardless of who he plays for. I would just prefer it be for us.

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. Getting a partner is always iffy in either direction.....for what you want or for what I would like to see happen. But I want call your thoughts "nonsense"

At this juncture, I would like to see the Bucs address DE and OG/C in free agency, draft OT in round one and TE/WR in rounds 2-4. I will probably change my mind 100 times between now and April but this is what my gut tells me before things start getting hot in March with free agency

With Clowney and McCoy, we'd be crowning a lot of people.
IMHO, instead of the annual band aid approach to drafting, with picks all over the board, try and fix one thing. Fix the Oline as an example or fix the pass rush/defense and put the issue behind us. We keep adding a player here, a player there. I know no one will agree but hell draft threee or four stud for the Oline, sign jared Allen as your edge rusher and rent him until next year. At least the oline of the future would be in place, learn as a unit and grow as one cohesive group. The defense doesn't need much, just the Jared Allen person. The oline, hence, the offense needs immediate fixing.
