Seems to me, this call came from the sidelines and he executed the hand-off properly. It's unfortunate that Sheppard slipped and the ball popped out but why does Page get benched afterwards? This makes no logical sense...
Schiano will blame the call on page...
Unless it was never called in the first place.
I'm guessing that's the convenient thing to do but how could that have been on Page? Clearly there was a play on.......

The guy came around for the handoff? Coincidence? LOL
Unless it was never called in the first place.
If Page and Sheppard decided to sandlot on their own, I'd be more than a little surprised at their stupidity....come on....this goes on coaching.

Exactly. There is no way on God's green earth that two guys barely holding on to an NFL paycheck ad-lib like that with the game on the line. Especially when their head coach is a control freak who has cut people for less. This was clearly a call, and clearly not Page's fault.
Your point makes sense no doubt, I'm just trying to find the logic in benching Page afterwards. If a lateral was the call then Page delivered and it wasn't his fault. The handoff was clean. Me suggesting that it wasn't the called play was the only logic I could find in the situation.
We'll know if either is cut this week.

Indeed....there is no reason to bench the guy for THAT play. He's messed up plenty other times but that particular play he executed as planned....SMH...what a bizarro coaching staff this is.

This staff has been outcoached for two years. Why try to find logic now?
The only other possibility I can think of is there must've been something said after the play on the sidelines....otherwise this is just a head-scratcher
Schiano had to blame somebody! A desperate coach, calling a desperate play, and then benching a guy when it doesn't work...#FireSchiano
He did return the ball deep in the endzone, Maybe he was told the play is only on if the ball is kicked before the goal line? Who knows..
Or maybe it was supposed to be a fake handoff? Trying to find sense here....
