That was a turrible call at a very bad time. There really was no reason for it.

Have to agree with that.  We just had a nice long drive from the O, and they were in a rhythm with the hurry up.

Was it a bad call? Yes, but had that turned into a big play or touchdown then nobody would be bashing it. Hindsight is 20/20 folks.

Seems to me, this call came from the sidelines and he executed the hand-off properly. It's unfortunate that Sheppard slipped and the ball popped out but why does Page get benched afterwards? This makes no logical sense...

He sucks as a returner anyway and shouldn't be on this team. That's on Schiano too!

He did well against Rutgers in college so.........

I forgot about that, thanks for reminding me...

Are u serious. There was no way that was going to be a big play. Look at the replay there were two niners right there. Wasn't going to be a big play at all. They're was only 1 team that was going to be a big play for and that's the niners.

Uhh yeah after the play started developing it was obvious. BUT the play was called BEFORE the play actually happened. So again hindsight is 20/20

I don't think anyone would be calling it a good call had it gotten a big gain or a TD. A ballsy call that worked out? Sure. A "good" call? Nope.

I think the point is being lost behind this whole thing...if they win or lose, it shouldn't be because a rookie KR has to make a critical read near his goal-line and then when it fails, take the blame for it.

Hard to fault the call, we were down 2 scores. We were not going to have 2 long drives. We needed something to get a cheap score or shorten the field. Yes it was risky but looking at the situation he played the game to win.

I think this nails it, and is exactly why, much to caradoc's shagrin, this is Schiano's fault. If there were 4 seconds on the clock instead of 4 minutes, call all the reverses you want. Call a double, no, triple, no, quadruple reverse if you want. But at that time?

Exactly. And if it had worked for a score, we may have next tried an onside kick. Down 40/20 minutes in Time of Possession, I doubt our D coulda got the ball back from the 49ers...

Too much time on the clock for that call. Either you trust your team or you don't. One stop, and you're back in the game, regardless of field position. Also, Page had as much of a chance of a big return taking it himself than they would have on a reverse. Statistically, he probably had more of a chance. That was a god awful call, any way you slice it.

ive never understood what the team sees in page anyway.  i'm faster in flip fops than this guy is.  he does something dumb that hurts field position each game.  sammy watkins please.

agree - and if Glennon and co. can get back into pitch and catch perhaps the niners start feeling something tightening around their collective necks... either way - need a couple of scores...

Page could have been sat for a couple of reasons which more surround the play than as punishment for the specific play. He may, as suggested by others, been kept on the sidelines because it was felt he'd let the last play carry over or it could be a season cumulative reason....recall Schiano on mic'd up talking to him.....as Page has made some curious decisions back there at times.
