Would Sam Darnold be tempting for Bucs ..has never had a good support cast and been on dysfunctional teams. Not saying I want this but we have no$
Rodgers-Jets
Carr-Panthers
Jimmy G-Buccaneers
There's only one way Stetson Bennett will be a Buc. That's if Todd Monken is the OC. Then, if they can sober him up, I could see them bringing him in to be the next Ryan Griffin. He'll be the 4th string permanent practice squad guy.
If Bucs don’t land Rodgers, carr or jimmy G; wouldn’t it be best they just tank 2023, take cap hot medicine, have top pick and start with new head coach and young qb in 2024?
Trying to win is fun. I dont think we are in a tough division. It might be dumb to just tank because we lost Brady and don't know what to do at qb. This roster isn't bad. It still has some decent players on it. Coaching sucked last year. Hopefully we can improve that and win some games. I like going to the playoffs. Rebuilding sucks.

i like going to the playoffs too but define trying to win
Having Gabbert or Trask competing is not trying to win
Signing or trading for QBs like Mayfield, Brissett, Heinke, or Minshew is not trying to win.
you are talking a 2-3 game win difference in any of those cases from 4 wins to 6-7 wins. rather tank
trading for Rodgers or Carr; and to lesser extent signing Jimmy G who always gets hurt; as i'd rank the top 3 options in that order; is a different story. With Rodgers and some other improvements, we are likely a superbowl contender
with Carr and Jimmy G (assuming he doesnt do what he always does and gets hurt), we are potentially a 9,10 win team. so to me, it depends on just how much those 3 cost.
we are $55M over the cap and i am all for competing. The first 2 years of Brady were unreal! it's been painful to be a Bucs fan sans a few seasons in our history. Even last year as painful as that was, was still a top 3 season since 2009.
peoples memories are inflated given the 2020 and 2021 successes. Remember, we had a talented team in 2019 too but finding a good reliable QB is not easy. we are a .500 team next year unless we somehow land Rodgers. Also, is father time getting him? Very much more likely that a team like the Jets give the Packers everything they want to land him and he would be in the AFC so it's very unlikely odds in terms of Aaron.
then it boils down to Carr and Jimmy G.
Jimmy G has topped 25 TD passes which was atrocious showing by Brady just once in his career. It was in 2019 when he played all 16 games and 49ers made superbowl.
other than that, the guy has missed games every year with the 49ers since 2017. The 49ers are a real talented squad, making 3 NFC Champ games in last 4 seasons but they had so much talent that Jimmy G has missed 6 games this year and they actually performed better with the last pick in the draft.
Derek Carr - this guy has been in the league 9 years and his teams have made the playoffs just twice. He has only topped Bradys brutally bad 25 TD passes jus t3 times in his career and 2 times that came in 2015 and 2016. We saw no difference in his performance from 2021 to 2022 and they added Adams to the mix
so while these options are better than anyone else listed, they dont guarentee success and very unlikely we get to 2020, 2021 levels with them. So at a certain point bucs front office might just eat their medicine and reset for a 2024 run
i agree we have some talented pieces but we have so many holes to fill as well and not much cap space to do it. why delay cap hell to pull a Saints and be .500 the last 2 years. They didnt realize they were done after Brees and how enjoyable were 2021 and 2022 seasons for their fans.
I am not sure I want us to sign a really good QB. Sadistically I am worried we go 9-8 / 8-9 and win the division in a terrible nfc south division and play poorly and that will be enuff to prolong the todd bowles experience for more than 1 year. So in other words, hoping we suck really bad not just bad.
It's pretty sad to be pulling for your team to suck because you have hatred for the coach.

It's pretty sad to be pulling for a QB to be awful because you have such hatred for that QB.

I'm not sure what you're thinking. If I don't have faith in Trask that doesn't mean I don't want him to do well if he ends up playing. I would love for him to be good. I'm just skeptical and I'm hoping they find someone else. That's different than rooting for him to fail.
I don’t think anyone hates trask. They just think he isn’t capable
to be honest, if he’s starting, the Bucs likely are ok with losing. You don’t go from Brady to Trask if you are tying to keep the playoff window open
They may throw in the towel this season given how terrible 2022 was and maybe land a top pick and coach in 2024
Depending on what they do at QB will be telling. Don’t be fooled by them signing brisset or mayfield as them trying
Quite possible. The interesting thing there is Bowles watching his (likely) last chance at a HC gig go down to a tank year. I wonder how he reacts.

To be honest Bowles being a head coach ended once the second highest superbowl odd Bucs coming off two seasons of a superbowl and 13 win reg season delivered a losing season; and most of their wins included come back magic from Tom Brady.
He won’t have much say really. I’m sure owners and Jason want to try to win but maybe they see A franchise QB coming out in 2024 and a 3 win season next year and resetting the cap being better than having a 6-8 win season and missing playoffs
