No, they aren't tanking. Todd Bowles isn't tanking. That doesn't mean they won't lose.
They may lose big. We don't know what the coaching staff and the roster looks like, but it's going to be a transitional year. Bowles won't be judged on the record only, but on whether he made the most of the talent on hand. This is definitely a more depressing situation than I had imagined it a month ago. I didn't think finding an offensive coordinator would be this much of a problem.
I don't think you need to get depressed. Just look at any given year in the NFL and things are never as they seem when offseason is over and the real bullets start to fly. Sure there are some teams who you know are going to be in the Superbowl picture and some who aren't. We won the division and would have been 9-8 if we didn't tank the last game on purpose. We did that with an OC who was fired for putting forth an impotent offense. So honestly, I don't think the offense is going to get worse.
I just have a sneaking feeling that the Bucs were as over it with the Brady show as the rest of us. We were mentally prepared to move on when he retired the first time, and when he came back it just threw us into neutral as fans and as a team. It was a season that wasn't supposed to happen. Now the Brady show is gone and a lot of people will be out to prove there's more to this team than Tom Brady. I do think the players will have something to prove, and that goes a long way in this league.
Carr going to the Saints?
But I thought Winston was their franchise qb?
Huh...
Weird
Bucs 29th best odds to win superbowl next year
They were 2nd best odds entering last season.
do the Bucs try to improve those odds to 24 or tank the season?
Give me rodgers, Jackson, Carr. Unlikely
next level would be jimmy G and then to lesser extent baker mayfield.
if can’t land those, why not tank? Wouldn’t you rather have the next Joe burrow instead of whatever the fuck you called the 15 years preceding Tom Brady
like I said, we will know by the QB approach what they decide, but if it’s trask gabbert, the writing is on the wall
It’s also likely Brady coordinated with Bucs on when to fire papers.
they likely decided let’s take the $35 million cap hit this year
Loyal Tom wouldn’t had done that without their decision
Factor in the season ticket plan of 2 year deal (meaning needed to buy 2022 and 2023) and it’s clear what Bucs are doing
how can you not see it? Yeah I want to compete too but I think Bucs realize they need a franchise QB.
2023 will suck but let’s face it 2022 wasn’t enjoyable either and we were actually trying
Give me rodgers, Jackson, Carr.
Pass on all 3 for very obvious reasons.
Our window shut the minute Tom bounced.
Time to take it on the chin, clear cap, be in position for a Top-3 pick, and make the whole situation as attractive as possible for the next head coach/regime.
The good news is there will be lots of tickets from which to choose if you want to go to a game this fall.
Upon further review, even though I would like the Bucs acquire Daniel Jones, I think for economic and marketing purposes, the Bucs will add Baker Mayfield! Also, Shea Tierney who is blocked at the Giants since Mike Kafka did not get the Cardinals HC job, has been with the Bills, Giants and with Alabama. IM, would ne a good choice as OC. Baker and Shea as OC would add some excitement to the Bucs offense!
Daniel jones is ass
Brady had a shit year and still his 25 passing touchdowns are a mark Daniel jones has not topped in his career
Let the giants resign him at 40 million a year and be a playoff pretender
I agree don't pay big money for Jones.
Better plan is to sign a cheap vet, draft a QB and let those two compete with Trask.
They are saying guys like geno smith and Dan jones will go for 35,40 million a year
I could see Derek carr, Rodgers at those values. No one else
If jimmy G will cost $15,$20 million you go that route
if baker cost $10 million, you consider him although he didn’t do much in 2022
I think it's clear, by the OC candidates they interviewed, that they wanted someone that could develop a QB. Pretty clear to me that the plan is to develop Trask and give him a chance to play. They'll likely sign a tier 2 type veteran FA QB to back him up and take over if he's struggles too much. Though, I think the organization plans to do like the Eagles did with Hurts and let Trask develop and see if they need to readdress the spot in next year's draft or not. Would be the smart thing to do, as this team has to cut players and is unlikely to compete for a SB this year. They obviously will want to win games though. They could also take a flyer on a late round QB this year in the draft, but I think the smarter play is to fill the other holes in this roster and wait until next year to see if another draft pick is warranted.
I believe Bowles and Arians both think highly of Trask based on comments (including recent ones by Bruce) and expected the staff to give him a better shot at winning the backup QB role than I think the prior offensive staff gave. I don't buy into the stuff that Claude told Scott. We'll see.

Tried to edit this, but the edit feature seems to be time now. I meant a better chance at the starting role than the last staff gave him to be the backup, as he wasn't going to play ahead of Brady no matter what.
It was always the plan for Trask to be the third string QB until Brady retired. If Brady had stayed retired last season, Trask would have been the starter. Who are the top tier-2 “cheap” veterans out there? Any with a connection to our new OC?
I think they bring Drew Lock in to compete with Trask
