I think that bringing Lovie in and giving him control shows there is a long term plan this time around...and that could mean not going over the top to get a Glennon replacement if the scenario doesn't immediately exist.
+1and that's a good thing for multiple reasons
Back to the title, I would say to be a top team you need a very good QB, not necessarily a FRANCHISE QB. The difference is largely mental, not totally physical skills either. If you disagree, ask yourself how many of these franchise QBs are on BAD teams? I would contend there are QBs out there on mediocre teams who COULD become franchise QBs if the team around them blocked better, had a better OC, had better WRs or had better RBs. Guys that HAVE the mental makeup to be great QBs. What if Tom Brady had been drafted by the Browns for instance? Or Drew Brees? And I'm not picking on the Browns in particular, just an example...

Who do you think could become a franchise QB that's currently on a mediocre team?

Glennon comes to mind, of course. What he did in 13 games in Sullivan's "offense" as a rookie with 1 real WR, no blocking TEs, a rapidly regressing O'line, and a highly erratic O'line I thought was darned impressive. He ran the same Pro-style offense in college as Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson, and is known to be very smart and possess a strong arm. I am very eager to see him in Tedford's offensive scheme..
Last season, I was really impressed with Nick Foles after our game. Not bein' a know-it-all, but Foles just looked like the real deal to me, and he's emerged as a potential franchise QB in my mind...
Yep, was hoping you thought of someone the Bucs could target. Foles isn't going anywhere. We'll see on Glennon. I think he played admirably but I don't think he's capable of carrying an offense like those other QBs.The vet possibilities (and they may not be better than Glennon) could include Ryan Mallett, Kirk Cousins, Josh McCown...
I've been surprised by McCown's success, TBH. If we could land Cousins, that would be great. Not expecting the Redskins to let him get away, tho'...

I actually meant our game vs Foles LAST season. I was HOPING with Reid leaving Foles might get away...
I think Glennon will be given a fair shot to win the starting QB job this season under a new OC. Lovie and staff will kick the tires. Why throw away a 3rd rounder so soon?
Glad we figured that QB is the most important player. Had no idea until now.
well, there's an NFL team out there that is still to figure that up ....... it's us :( :'(we never had a real one. and even if we did, we either did not realize it, or we did everything to chase him away :oedit: one mate, packers fan, told me something two weeks ago: "man, it really suciks to play without QB ....."he had no clue .... no clue!!!!!!!.
Quarterback is very important ....but reaching in order to force yourself into having one doesn't usually work. The great QB is either available to you or he isn't.Most playoff teams have good QB's, true , but lots of teams who are perennially bad do a lot of reaching for QB's early .See Bills , Browns , Jags, etc. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shlt. If the superstar isn't available , like it appears he won't be this year at #7 , then pick a player who is going to be a true difference maker at another position . Don't reach for a guy like Derek Carr .
