If you release those 4, then trade Revis, McCoy, Martin and Jackson and end up with two #1s and two #2s... the Bucs would be sitting $64.1M under the cap with three #1s and three #2s. Nuclear winter, but if you hire someone who knows what they're doing the Bucs would be a powerhouse in 3 years.
You play too much Madden.
Jimmy Johnson built the Cowboys on a Madden trade.
For a running back....An elite DT, top 5 CB, top 12 WR and a RB are building blocks toward a good team. You would make those trades and draft who? Who would be guaranteed to be better than those guys?
No it isn't, you just made that up. Building blocks toward a good team are a Quarterback and pass rush. We don't have either and won't be good until we do. And you're not trading Revis and McCoy for one player. Combined they account for almost $30M in cap room. Giving up a #1, #3 and $16M for Revis, that's 5-6 starters. Drafting a RB in the 1st round is stupid because A. They get hurtB. You can get production from guys off the streetWhat a surprise, Martin got hurt and we got production from a guy off the street/late round pick. Vincent Jackson, great player. But what is a rebuilding team with no QB doing with a 31 year old high priced WR.
By all means...please let me know which teams are going to line up to trade for a $16 mil/year corner.
And please tell us how a DT with 9 sacks is not part of a pass rush. We only need one more piece on the DLine because McCoy has been that great. And Jackson could have a similar role to young QB like Reggie Wayne, Anquan Boldin, and Steve Smith.

So you agree the Revis trade was terrible from our point of view?Around the trade deadline I proposed we trade him to Denver.
I may not go as far as saying it was terrible...but I wasnt the fan of trading for him. Personally I was hoping we would have signed Sean Smith and Keenan Lewis for somewhere between 10-12 mil a season combined. I didnt think the 1st/3rd picks were bad considering I wasnt a huge fan of any of the corners in this past year's draft where we were picking. I also dont hate the contract we signed him to since its pretty much all on him to perform and when we decide its over, we wont have any dead money hanging over our heads from him. With the way his contract is structured, our only "out" is to cut him (which isnt happening anytime soon). The only way I would even entertain trading him is if we got back more than we traded for him. We risked a 1st/3rd on a guy we didnt know could return to health. Now that he has proven he is back-ish...I would want more than what we gave for him since we took the risk. The problem is...I just dont see it happening.

Because his cap number is $10.9M this year and $13.2M next year. 9 sacks at $10.9M, that's $1.2M a sack. Disgusting.
And Jackson could have a similar role to young QB like Reggie Wayne, Anquan Boldin, and Steve Smith.
I'll take the pick and the $29.5M of cap space we would save over 3 years.

Good thing McCoy's upcoming contract extension will bring that cap number down then. That 29m cap number for VJax can be redone too. You want to let go of great players who've been producing at a high level to bring in who exactly? You still mad about Luke McCown and Freeman or something?
How much is Geno Atkins getting per sack?

Too much

Again, what leverage do the Bucs have in getting McCoy's number down? He can not sign an extension and make either $15.8M from the franchise tag or hit the free agent market. But you guys think he'll sign for $8M a year? LOLAGAIN, what leverage do the Bucs in making Jackson take a pay cut? He's making $12.2M. You guys act like players are scared of hitting the unrestricted free agent market. I want to stop dumping tens of millions of dollars into a handful of players on a 4-12 team.

He's on IR, but he was on pace for 11 sacks. That would be $645k per sack.

What leverage did Geno Atkins have to not ask for more? His deal is manageable and McCoy's will be as well. The bucs should have leverage on Jackson because he will be older and want guaranteed money again. He could want to sign with a title contender if we aren't at the time but he'll be making way less.

They have the leverage of a longer term contract in a sport where injuries occur all the time. I think you could very easily get him to take a longer term deal worth roughly $8 mil/year with a nice signing bonus that is front loaded. Atkins got 55/5 but 15 of it was a signing bonus so it breaks down to roughly $8mil/year salary. Manipulate the cap hit with the signing bonus. Why cant McCoy sign something similar?

So is our guy but it just so happens that he was better than Geno coming in to the league, hence the big contract.

Woah now.. Don't let common sense get in the way, JC was trying to make a point somehow.

Lol...my bad yo

His franchise tag number was only $8.4M, McCoy's is $15.8M. And Atkins was only going to make $1.2M in 2013. McCoy's cap number next year $13.2M. If I was McCoy's agent I wouldn't even pick up the phone unless the Bucs were offering Revis money. Sit back and get the franchise tag money or become an unrestricted free agent in his prime coming off pro-bowls. He has the Bucs by the balls.

Again the Bucs are in a no win situation. The only way he will take a paycut is if his play dramatically drops off, and if that's the case they were wrong for not trading him.

Because he can make $15.8M under the franchise tag and be a free agent all over again the next year.
