Jay Gruden expected to retain Jim Haslett, Raheem Morris; Sean McVay will be offensive coordinator WashingtonPost.comBy Mark Maske and Mike Jones January 9 at 9:48 pm Updated, 12:25 am.: Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett is expected to remain on the coaching staff of the Washington Redskins’ newly hired coach, Jay Gruden, a person familiar with the team’s deliberations said Thursday. Haslett is likely to retain the title of defensive coordinator. Haslett previously worked with Gruden in the United Football League and remains under contract to the Redskins. He was not fired when the Redskins dismissed former coach Mike Shanahan and much of Shanahan’s staff. General Manager Bruce Allen said at the time that the team’s new coach would determine the status of those coaches not immediately fired. Raheem Morris is expected to remain on staff, possibly having a larger role in directing the defense. His contract expires in February, but a person close the situation expected that new deal to be finalized soon. Tight ends coach Sean McVay will remain on Gruden’s staff and McVay will be promoted to offensive coordinator. He worked with Gruden in the UFL and with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. People familiar with the situation believe that by retaining McVay, who was already responsible for third-down package planning in the offense, the Redskins will help ensure a smoother transition for Robert Griffin III. Bengals assistant Hue Jackson won’t join Gruden in Washington but likely will be elevated to offensive coordinator in Cincinnati to replace Gruden. Gruden’s agent, Bob LaMonte, said Gruden’s ties to members of the organization and his desire to work with Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III also were major factors in deciding to accept the job. “He had an existing relationship with Bruce,” LaMonte said in a telephone interview. “He had an existing relationship with Haslett. He had an existing relationship with McVay. That certainly played into it. He was intrigued by the talent of the quarterback.” Longtime Redskins linebacker London Fletcher began lobbying for Morris via Twitter.
The rest of the NFCE is very excited about this news.
Good for Raheem. I don't think he's a horrible D-coordinator. He's a very good DB coach. I think he was just in way over his head and the team tanked on him late in the season. I know some won't be excited about him...but remember Gruden and Allen tagged Raheem to be the successor to Monte...until they got fired and Raheem got promoted to the head coach. I wouldn't bee to quick to laugh at this choice. It's risky as Raheem's D wasn't great here...but I figured he'd a get a 2nd chance one day. I also think he has a chance to be a head coach again one day...he just needs a lot more experience.
Not surprising the players want him .....he doesn't make players do anything except go out and party with him , LOL.

They'd do that anyways. I mean what else are they going to do with all that money?

In the District/Northern Virginia/Baltimore? It is definitely party like a rock star every night.
Sean McVay is 27 years old. Wow. Gotta be the youngest OC, I've ever seen. Can't believe Jay Gruden is okay with leaving most of that staff intact.
If I was Gruden, no way in a million years would Morris become my DC. The last time that happened a Gruden was unemployed and a Morris was the New "Head Coach" . Just say'in

Yeah, London Fletcher doesn't like to work hard.

Maybe Morris learned something with his time here.

Didn't earn it. He's John McVay's grandson.
