What I found interesting was that the Bucs did improve the speed of the secondary in 2019 compared to 2018 as it is shown above. Even more interesting was how Johnson, Whitehead and Harris played big roles down the stretch due to injury. But they are at the bottom of this chart based on speed. So, will these players be able to push for playing time or are they destined to be decent backups? Time will tell.
Looking at the top of the chart you see lots of potential. Dean, Brice, Bunting, Evans and Smith. Smith has been a project that hasn't fully panned out. Evans has so much potential but he hasn't been the impact safety the Bucs have hoped. Dean and Bunting are more polished than Smith coming out. But it makes you wonder if Dean and Bunting can translate that speed onto the field as competent NFL football players. And then you have Brice and Bucannon whom have the most NFL experience of this group.
Then you reach the middle of the pack where there are BIG question marks. VH3, Edwards, Davis, Rivers and Stewart. Of those five, Edwards and Stewart are projected as safties. Rivers, VH3 and Davis have a lot to prove given they are not as fast as other CB's on the roster now. Rivers and Davis have decent size so that leaves VH3 as having the most to prove this season.
