Detroit has resubmitted a proposal that strips the automatic home game for division champions and seeds all seven playoff participants based on record. Effectively making winning the division meaningless. I really hope the league thinks this one through. Really piss poor idea.
I hope it stays as it is.
Agreed. Over the past two seasons we have beat every team in the NFC North. So saying that "our division is harder" is complete bullshit. And quite frankly, cyclical. If they mess with this one, it would speak to a very short sighted approach to a short term problem.
I think Detroit's concern is a knee-jerk reaction to what happened in the NFC North last season. It's pretty rare air when there are three teams in the same division sitting at 15-2, 14-3, and 11-6 at regular season end. I'm with you guys, leave it alone. Winning your division has always been a huge preseason goal for most if not all NFL teams since it guarantees that first round home playoff game.
@theknees - agree, the Patriots had the luxury of a weak division for an early stretch.
You guys are only against it because it's been benefitting the Bucs lately. If we were 12-5 and seeded below a 9-8 team you would all be crying.
It's a good proposal. Hope it passes.

Correct. I have nothing but respect for the Pats in the Brady era but, man, they sure benefited from a weak division for so many years. Of course, the Patriots did well against everyone else as well.
Side note, the amount of respect the Pats are being given this off-season is laughable.

What would be the point of divisions then??? Would be really damn stupid.
I dislike the Pats, but I too respect what they did. They took advantage of the period of playing in a weak division and built out the organization & culture, while acquiring talent. As their division became stronger, they remained competitive. They were able to adapt offensively & defensively. It was an impressive & unprecedented run.@theknees - agree, the Patriots had the luxury of a weak division for an early stretch.

I believe the Bucs have modeled successful teams, like Pittsburgh & New England, and are trying to leverage their advances into longer term success. It has not had the same trajectory - but I remember the pre-Belichick era of the Patriots, and how they were a a laughingstock of an organization.
It seemingly turned fast.
I would expect this team - at this stage - begin to start having 11 & 12 games win totals. It’s the next step if we are where I’d like to think we are.
We’ll see.

While that's true, they also usually went 12-4 with that weak division. My point being, the Pats earned their high seeds.
It's been 3 years since the NFCS winner won 11 games - out of 17.

To win your division and get into the playoffs. Division winners still get into the playoffs, regardless of overall record. If you want a higher seed and a home playoff game, then win more games.

Scheduling and guarantee a playoff spot.

Winning your division should be the first thing measured. If you didn't win your division, someone else in your division did and they are from a regular season standpoint, better than you. If you came in second or third, you should be happy you are getting in at all. Re-seeding makes no sense, and is quite frankly, pink, soft, weak, and inane.

You sound stupid. If you didn't win your division the team that did will be seeded ahead of you. There is no argument for the Bucs being seeded above the Vikings last year.
Television usually wins (you watch players stand on the field looking at each other during commercial breaks) so this change is probably pretty likely.
Yep, it’s not about fairness to the Lions, increased viewership from potential ratings improvements are clearly the driver. That’s why it will happen.
Besides the fact that we beat the Lions and Eagles last season, but won a weak division.
It’s ok, the Bucs should win more games this season, and hopefully the division. The organization is strong, there is a strong culture and now more complete roster. I think we’re ahead of the other teams in the NFCS in that regard. We didn’t blow up the roster - while we were also unexpectedly competitive in the 3 year span. We beat teams like the Vikings (w/Kirk Cousins) in Bakers first season, the Lions & Eagles last season. The roster is stronger.
The things the Bucs have learned to do well, got stronger. The things we didn’t (defense), look to be stronger.
There is now a clock manager in Bowles ear.
The only issue I see is that Grizz is an unknown.
I think we’re poised for a good run this season.
We’ll see.
